V50 Monza rearset porn
« on: July 03, 2017, 02:56:01 PM »
Guys,

I could not resist. I got these lovely rearsets for the V50 Monza from Motocicli Velocchi in far-off Italy...

And the associated hardware:

and a gas-cap of the Peiretti type, with a thumbwheel for closure:

Now, for you gambling types, will I:

1. Continue focused on the critical path to getting the engine started, which consists of cleaning up around the alternator, lubing the advance mechanism, setting the static advance, and setting the valve spacings, OR

2. Get these beauties assembled and onto the bike pronto?

Your guess is as good as mine...

Well, it should take you about a half an hour to do number 1, so I'll vote for number 2.

You're a very bad man.

I've been thinking this is the next step in the V50 III rehab

Try contacting them. Mine were supposedly in stock, but took 3-4 weeks to ship. My guess is that they were made to order

Also, remember the Euro-USD rate is very much in favor of those in the US of A right now...

The mouse print on the ad says

Quote

Kit Competizione Moto Guzzi Imola/Monza
Control levers built in lightened AQ45 steel section.
Alluminium footrest - Zinc-chromed finishing
Complete of gearchange and rear brake rods with uniball
Specific kit for all Moto Guzzi V35 V50 V65
To assemble without modify or welting to the frame

So I'm hoping they will fit.  It wouldn't be the first time I purchased aftermarket parts that said they fit and didn't for the V50.

So, here's progress, plus some more intimate shots of my counter top for those so inclined:

The dry assembly is easy enough but requires a few there-and-back-again steps as there are no instructions provided. Fitting the brake side is easy:

@not-fishing: note there are three holes on the mounting plate. The one that takes the footpeg is independent of the frame. The other two mount directly to the frame and I suspect are different in the Monza than the standard V50.

Fitting the gear lever side is tricky because there is a spline that connects the gear control lever to the foot control, and this can only be performed on the bike in-situ, unless you take the whole rear frame off:

Getting this key into the keyway requires near-gynacoelogical skill levels and really takes patience. Once you get it started though, it taps into place easily enough with a small light hammer, and gets covered up by a washer and locknut:

Leaving you with a very tidy and tasty gear lever!

Note all the tie-wraps: debris from trying to hold things in place on one side of the bike whilst trying to tap the keyway in from the other. DEFINITELY beer o'clock when this is finished.
