Getting away from tshirts for now
« on: July 12, 2017, 03:41:23 PM »
Sorry, but the costs of everything is getting crazy. The costs of the shirts went to $16.  Add the average of $6 to mail them and the $1 or so that paypal takes and that leaves roughly $2-3 to put back into the website.  That is not worth my time.  I have so little time to do these things anyways and with the guy that makes them running 3-4 weeks behind, the frustration for those that ordered them having to wait, etc, it's just not right to do them anymore and raising the prices of the shirts is robbery that I don't want any part of.  Hope you all understand.  I'll just continue to count on donations to help keep the ship upright.

Thanks all,
Luap

P.S. I still have plenty decals though

It's not robbery to charge what you have to.  I don't think anyone would complain, especially if they were told the cost/retail upfront.  Now, if it has become too much work for too little return, even with a price increase, then it makes sense to stop

have folks do paypal as friends/family then they don't charge anything for money received. or tell the to add the extra fee to their payment.

Don't know what you were charging but a decent T is often in the $35 range these days isn't it? And even if not, why couldn't these be for a known reason?

I agree with Kev, and with drw916. In any bike store, branded t-shirts are $35 and up. But as drw says, if it has become too much work for too little return, even with a price increase, then it makes sense to stop.

Keep up the good work with the site,

Ain't we all friends here on this board?

If I wanted a T-shirt (I just have too many T-shirts), I would have no problem making a $50 donation and getting a "free" T-shirt. It's your deal and your time, so I am just offering an idea: don't "sell" shirts - give them away with donations that are large enough to make it worth your time.

Could you just sell the artwork via email and let us take them somewhere to print?

I know some people might nick it but the bulk of us won't and it would open it up to those of us outside of the USA

Personally, I may show my age when I say that I'd rather pay a fair bit more (maybe not as often) for a polo/golf shirt than a T. I know I wear collared shirts 98% of the time.

As for discontinuing the offering, the purpose of the shirts (or any other offering) is to give people a way to support the site and have something to show for it. If the return isn't making the effort worthwhile, move on say I...

One of your "final" t-shirts arrived in yesterday's mail and I am pleased!  Your efforts to provide them is appreciated. (Much effort required!)  Should you ever choose to get re-involved in what became a counterproductive task, I think that Scud's thought of a free shirt with a $50.00 donation just might be workable.

My thanks to you & other staff for providing a great website!!

Luap:

This was my recent experience with the Cedar Vale T-shirts.   The expense and hassle to produce a high quality T-shirt is higher than many suppose.  And when you add in PayPal and shipping costs, there is little or no margin left.

I don't think the T shirt biz is worth the candle unless folks are willing to pay significantly more for the shirt, or you can somehow get a deal from the shirt maker.

....... so I am just offering an idea: don't "sell" shirts - give them away with donations that are large enough to make it worth your time.

And for our part as users, we could move in that direction too ... we could make donations large and small and NOT get a T-shirt with it!  It could just be a ..... Donation.   That way Luap doesn't have to fool with T-shirts and the board continues to get supported.

There's everything to be said for this concept ......   :thumb:

I donated.  Doing t-shirts before, the multi-colored ones are more labor intensive and expensive to print.
