Oil temp V7II
« on: January 04, 2021, 06:42:27 AM »
Hello guys(and girls) driving a 90 degrees harley concept engine (kidding)

I reed a lot of oil temp topics...and i read a lot of (obnoxious) opinions were quistions are asked

Just to share for the ones that are interested. On my 2015 V7II ( don't forget the speciale) i bought an extra temperature sensor witch cable (two wires) on ebay. same value as the on board sensor that measures the ambient temperature
I splitted the cable using a very smal rocker switch , and hooked it up so i can choose between sensors.
With a removable connector i drilled a hole IN (not trough) my engine oil drain plug and pushed the sensor in with a little heat resistend glue

now my temperature displays outside temp or engine oil temp, at least enough for me
Restiction...the display only goes to 61 celcius and the displays "HIGH"

its a very easy mod and it realy shows your engine temperature and warming up .

with other placements of the sensor or other values of the sensor you can get ofcourse the readings you want.

I looked at doing something similar but when I found the display topped out at quite a low value I didn't bother.
One thing you could do with the extra sensor is mount it low down on the chassis to better warn you of freezing temperatures, the sensor location in the speedometer is behind the fly screen and quite slow to respond.

Fog,
One thing you might be able to do is find another sensor that will have double the range i.e. same resistance at twice the temperature, it wouldn't have to be dead accurate
as you are really only interested in the trend (is it getting hotter?)
It would be simple to just double the reading in your head especially in celsius.
Do you have a part No for the one you bought.
They usually give a resistance at 25C
I have the part No for the older Guzzi thermistors, 2000 era oil and air temperature.
Vishay NTCLE203E3302SB0  The one I labeled K100 was a match for a BMW

You will see the circled table matches almost exactly the table in the manual for a VII                                                       VII Temperature Table

I have a bunch of resistance readings I took for different temperatures for the V7 thermistor but I cannot locate it at the moment.
