Another reason to check your fuel tank
« on: July 19, 2017, 07:52:24 PM »
I don't post often since I'm rarely the most knowledgeable person on the topic at hand, but perhaps this is worth mentioning.

I removed the fuel tank on my Breva 1100 yesterday after its fuel hose separated from the pump. I noticed the foam on the underside of the tank was largely missing, so I thought perhaps I should check the air filter. What I discovered is shown in the attached photo. Nearly all of the foam had been pulled into the air filter. Pieces were embedded into the filter media so I couldn't simply clean the filter housing and re-use the filter. It might be worth checking the underside of the tank if you haven't already.

If you own an early Norge or Breva, the foam heat pad will be just like that.. Almost every one I service now looks that way if it hasn't had a service lately. Stuff falls apart in 8-10yrs.

In my case, I don't think it even lasted three.

The foam disintegrated on mine when I took off the tank a couple weeks ago.

Now that my replacement parts from Gutsibits have shown up, I'm also replacing the foam with some cut pieces of black outdoor carpet and some self adhesive sticky foam.  Should be a much better insulation setup than the foam which disintegrated very easily...

Luckily none of it had gone down into the filter area...good item to check though!
