Please save these rare Targa's
« on: August 23, 2017, 01:07:08 AM »
Found these on UK Ebay. Targa's are rare. Supposably only 250 ever build. Rides and runs like a dream. These two are non runners.

I thought the TArgas were a 4V head model? Its a long time ago now!

Certainly there was a V75 which was with much the same running gear but with more 'Blocky' styling very much like the T5 big blocks. They were such a grenade that they made the Lario look like the poster child for longevity and strength! I thought they were related the the Targa but obviously not as those are 2V engines.

While I have never been a fan of *that* styling period I'm sure they are a hoot to ride. Yes indeed. Well worthy of respect and preservation.

Yeah the V75-4 is an 4V/head with all that goes with it. Restoring one as we speak and doing a valve mod. The Targa has the 2V/head as you noticed. A complete different animal than the Lario and the V75-4.

"Rare" doesn't always translate to "valuable", so saving those would have to be a "labor of love". Very doubtful you'd ever recoup even a percentage of the $$ and time spent on them.

My doctor says my condition is "rare".  Trust me, you don't want to collect it.

I think I test rode one of those—the nicer one in the background. As my friend Skip would say, "Needs new."

I would be interested at $1500 if they were a little closer. A battery, some spit and polish and a can of sea foam and I'd be good to go!

"Making money" or "valuable" was never in my mind posting this eBay listing. Rare and unique was. I'd never recover the labor and parts put into my collection of geese. Never intended to. The fun and pleasure of restoring and riding a rare bike is enough to me. Clearly labor of love :azn:

Simples. When a few hipsters have stuffed their 'Bobber' or 'Roamer' V9's into the side of a bus because they were admiring themselves in the Windows they were riding by or checking their Facebook feeds while riding there will be a plethora of virtually new V9 motors that can be bought and bolted into Targas and the like. Sure you'll have to find some way of blocking off the air injection system but manifolds will match up and my guess is pipes will be easy. Brilliant! Hemi Head engine it a decent motorbike with a bit more zip and my guess would be that the cams in the V9 *might* be a bit more exciting than those in the drone motor.

Have you graphed the drone cams Chuck? I haven't done a V9 yet because I've never seen one! Apart from in a shop, covered in dust!

Yeah, it's the same as the stock small block cam with .020" more lift.

I still vividly remember 17 years ago, sitting there at the light on my LeMans V, and one of those pulled up next to me. The rider, with a look of desperation, asked me 'do you want to buy it?'

..I don't get their attraction myself...

I think there have been fewer produced because 25 (maybe 50) have been used to produce V75T in UK.

Wow - I knew of the V75T in the UK - a V50/III style 750cc bike. I didn't know Targa's were used to produce it.

However - looks like the 750 Strada could be the mother of the 750T too...

They was delivered with the Targa's manual.....I know that the English importer had requested a first set of 25 and was thinking of a second set of 25 too but I do not know if this second set has existed.
