Author Topic: Stelvio NTX Specific-- MRA X-Creen (windscreen spoiler) bolt-on or clamp-on?  (Read 3580 times)

I used the search function here for researching ways to reduce or eliminate turbulence and buffeting on my helmet from the stock wind screen of the Stelvio NTX and it looks like the MRA X-Creen spoiler is a good option. I have to get something going, the turbulence I'm experiencing is somewhat high frequency resonation/pulsation at interstate speeds, and that's in smooth air.  Add the usual rolling brick SUV or God Help us the open bed pickup truck or an 18 wheeler up ahead and my Nolan N104 helmet is taking a first class beating.

My question is thus:  It comes as either bolt-on which requires using a template and drilling the plexi or it comes in a clamp-on type that appears to require no drilling holes in the screen.

Hoping to hear from owners with each type.  Specifically while the clamp-on sounds good I have to wonder about the two large bulky clamps representing big old distractions that your eye keeps trying to tune out since they would be right up on the trailing edge of the screen just below line of sight.

I have been thinking about giving one of those a try. I am not sure I would want to drill holes in my windscreen, but I wonder if the clamp-on version might fall off...

I use a similar screen by a different maker on my Cali Custom and before that on a BMW K1200RS.  There was never a danger of loosing it and it is movable between bikes.  That is the direction I would go again if it was my choice.

In terms of visual impact, the two aren't very different from each other - at least if you're like me and set the screen to be just below your line of vision.

I would mention that I got one of these with the Stelvio I recently purchased. It seems to do a fair job, has lots of range of adjustment. However, it has an incredibly annoying squeak/rattle while riding around the city, so much so that I switched to the Cal-Sci medium screen that also came with the bike.

Until I can figure out how to eliminate that noise, the MRA-equipped screen is on the shelf.

I have tryed the sport MRA X-Creen and the large version. Large is by far the best way to go.
the large xscreen version has been clamped on for 3 years and is solid as a rock.  And it woorks great! I am 6' 1''. Hope this helps.

Good info all.  I should've mentioned, I'm between 6'2 and 6'3".  Seat is set to the low position.  The large or non-sport MRA clamp-on sounds like it might be the route to go.  Thanks, this is the exact kind of owner experience descriptions I was hoping for.

I have the sport screen on my Stelvio and the Touring screen on the 1400 Cali Touring.  They are both clamped on and I have not had any problems with them coming off.  They made a pretty big difference on both bikes to me.  I'm not as tall as you, so I can't confirm that for your height.

I had the clamp on model. It worked very well.

I used the drill and bolt type on my '13 Stelvio.  It made a huge difference and was very easy to do accurately.  I have tried the sport and the regular on different bikes and the sport just isn't quite enough.

I would definitely recommend the clamp on version.  I have both types on various bikes and the ability to quickly transfer the MRA to different screens to try out makes it worthwhile.    I had one on my Stelvio and transferred it to it's replacement  - a Caponord Rally.

Ordered the Touring size in clamp-on flavor this morning.  $125 shipped.   Have high hopes for it.

I would love to try it myself, but I don’t think it will fit on the Norge’s narrow-topped windscreen. I am probably going to try the Givi clamp-on unit.

UPDATE

Installed as clamp-on this evening.  It seems too wide.  The clamps have to bite on the edges of the screen where it's about 45-60 angle.  Wondering if I should have bought the smaller sport version.  Not concerned that it will come off, it's clamps have decent amount of lexan to bite, but it kind of bugs me the way it looks.  Will try to post a photo later or tomorrow.
