Rode a 2012 V7 Racer this weekend
« on: October 29, 2017, 07:25:37 PM »
Like the title says, I rode a 2012 V7 Racer this weekend and was very impressed. The bike had the Vintage fairing kit and Agostini pipes with the baffles removed. If the garage wasnt overflowing this one would probably be home with me now. It had just the right amount of raucousness. It was surprisingly fast, but nothing that would get you in trouble. Oh, and the sound was just right.

Jay, I thought of you when I saw this one. It really was sweet. I want to ride to the Norton soon so I can mentally compare them.

I know a lot of people criticize the Racer for the name when it has such a mild power band, but it seems to me the whole purpose of the thing was balance anyway.

And as such I think they got to right.

That fairing looks like it would make the front end light if the bike were able to go fast.  Looks like more lift than downforce with that fairing design.

I really wanted a paint matched fairing for my café but missed the window of opportunity to get one since I didn't get my bike until '14.

I had the bike up to about 80 and didn’t notice any unstableness or lightness. It provided good wind protection with no buffeting.

Yeah, good luck finding one of these fairings. I think we have seen 1 for sale in the past few years. And it went for about what Moto Guzzi listed as the MSRP when they were new.

That is a heck of a nice road and it is only 10 or so miles from my house. We are fortunate to live in the northern tip of Virginia.  The road jas67 posted up above looks pretty nice too.

I remember that fairing from Stucci. It is a nice option, but it shows a lot of open space behind the headlight. I prefer the more closed off look of the official Moto Guzzi version.

I prefer the look of the Stucchi faring. It fits with the "smaller" and svelte nature of the bike.
The official MG fairing looks quite bulky. Might stylistically fit better with a big block Moto Guzzi.

That gold one in reply # 6 is pretty as hell.
To me though, they just look they "need" a second disc up front, (although they probably don't).

If it's anything like my 2015 V7 Stone a second disk is not needed.  My bike stops right NOW with the as supplied single disk.  I'm amazed at how powerful that single disk setup is.  Ascetics is one thing but the extra weight is not needed, at least for my particular machine.

Brembo brakes and Stainless Steel lines coupled with the lower HP and narrower tires makes one disk up front all that is needed.

Need is a funny thing. Forget need and go with want, perception, length of service without further maintenance, ability to one finger stop with a passenger aboard.

The lack of duals is my biggest grip with the smallblock line, despite knowing how strong and capable the stock single is.

I weigh 190 and don't carry a passenger.  Your results may vary.
