15 years old, Dad wanted a "commuter" bike.  (I just wanted ANY bike...)  We're at a Suzuki/ Hodaka dealer & he's looking at the Wombat or a Suzi TC100 (dual range trans).  I had worn the pages out on every issue of Dirt Bike I could get my hands on, & I thought I made a very good case for the Hodaka, but we ended up with the TC - so much for MY powers of persuasion....

I did end up enjoying the Suzuki for many years, aside from the 40 mph top speed, in hi range.....  (What was the point of the dual range tranny again....?)

I also remember those heady dirt-bike days back in the mid-70's, and the Hodaka was the much-talked-about model that nobody had, so it's aura made it superior to the other Jap bikes. I remember the "Combat Wombat" version, the motocrosser (no lights). I had an inferior '72 Yamaha AT2 125 (elec start!) that I stripped all the lights off of. Motocross was exploding then, and THEN the '76 Honda CR125 got released and changed everything.

Out in the middle of nowhere a few weeks ago and three guys pull up on endures with the front guy on a Hodaka 250.  Turns out he re-started the Preston Petty company after trying to make fenders for his vintage bikes.  He was wearing the same Hodaka pants when I saw him...

I always lusted after the earlier vintage chrome tank models. Love the sound of the old 2 strokes too!!

I bought a Dirt Squirt sight unseen from my neighbor a while back.  Once I got it I realized it would cost far more to bring it into decent condition then to just buy a top notch specimen.

Ended up giving it away to a better home.
