Can anyone ID the make on this oldie but goodie?
« on: November 13, 2017, 11:53:30 AM »

The [pilfered from the 'net] photo was labelled "125_sport" but no other info.  Hoping someone here is familiar with the tank logo &/ or engine/ frame configuration - I'm certainly no expert....  The tank may be a one-off, but the badge looks like one on a "project" bike I saw under a carport a year or 2 ago, & the engine looks familiar.  Colors were similar too, as I recall.  Have never been able to contact the owner, yet, but if it's something special it may be worth pursuing further, if not by me, then maybe someone else interested in a "rescue"....

Thanks in advance....

That is a DUCATI.  Perhaps 125?

How about this 175 Sport?

I have a local vintage Ducati expert.  I'll pass it along and comment back.

Yep, that is a Ducati 125 Sport made from 1957-1965, has the same clutch inspection plate on the side of engine as my old 450 Desmo, also says Ducati on it. I made a belt buckle out of one years ago. The similar 160/175's came along after 1965 to compete with the Asian newcomers in that displacement range.

Ah, very good.  I should have recognized the badge I guess.  So, mid-60's for that particular logo?

May be worth the effort to investigate the local one further.  The picture of it in my head, though foggy, may have shown a tank something like this, but blue:

Or Mr. Google may have edited that mental pic for me....
