and remember these motorcycles.......
« on: December 08, 2017, 12:42:52 PM »
I rode my friend's Combat Wombat for a while also a DT175  Yamaha IIRC.  Hodaka had some cute names.

From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

Hodaka owners have a club and still get together once a year I believe in the PNW.  Think the designer is from Oregon.

Had a DT-175, new, but always considered a Hodaka something to aspire too, maybe because they were cool looking.   Certainly not because of the names the company gave their bikes!

I really need to ride a 175 again.   Back then, it seemed like the perfect combination of trail-ability and road-ability.   I used to ride it from Farmville VA to Virginia Tech on weekends when I wasn't taking my R5, and it performed fine out on the highway - it would hold 60 MPH in top gear unless it was a LONG hill, and then just shift down once or twice and still hold 55 or 60, enough to stay out of trouble on any but the most aggressive highways.

Maybe that's just the rose-colored glasses speaking, though.   I may get another just "to be young again".

Home base is Helena, WA. Started in 64 with the Ace 90. I have just got to put finishing touches on my 65 Ace 90. I am going to try to post some pics.

Spotted at the Portersville, PA Steam Show earlier this year:

* We saw a 2-stroke Maytag washer there that probably was as fast as the Hodaka...

I had a 175 Yamaha dirt bike too before I got a `74 250 Rickman Montessa.  We used to ride under the power lines from Bonneville Dam in Oregon near Portland.  Usually came home hurt.  :boxing:

Oh HELL yes.

Had a Super Rat and a Wombat but always desperately wanted a Combat Wombat!

For my money - I won't even bother to look at a Hodaka without the original style chrome tank. They just seem "off" to me otherwise.

Always been a Hodaka fan, lusted after the Ace 90 when I was a kid, could convince my parents to let me buy one with my paper route money. I got this book on the history of Hodaka for free with the purchase of Bike Exif calendar.
Great story on how they cane to be.
