Eldo front axle
« on: December 19, 2017, 07:57:40 PM »
Hi all, can someone tell me the difference between the front axle, spindle on an Eldorado with 2 shoes to one with 4 shoes, I wish to purchase a 4 shoe wheel to put on my eldo but does not have a spindle. Parts list shows different numbers for the two but can the 2 shoe spindle be machined to fit the 4 shoe. I cant use my V7 sport as an example as the Tonti has a different brake/ hub to the loop frame.
And would any one in Australia have one they aren't using for a tent peg or paper weight...Thanks Bill
I couldn't find any advertised with Harpers or MG and  moto inter

It would be possible to machine the 70 mm long large diameter of the 2LS axle down to 59 mm to make it a 4LS axle.

Thanks Charlie, I looked on gregorys site but missed that one, If I cant acquire the correct one then I can turn mine down, It should not affect the axle strength.

Be very careful machining that axle, I have seen that fail and it is not a good surprise! Try to hold out for the correct part. Maybe the seller has it?

Available from Stein-Dinse:

It would probably be a good idea to confirm the length of the large diameter with them before ordering.

Do you know if this axle will also work for a twin front disc eldo? The listing does not list a police eldo nor give dimensions>

No, it will not. Dimensions of the disc axle from This Old Tractor:

The overall length of the axle is 291 mm. The length of the larger diameter portion is 92 mm.

It's also larger in diameter. You need the disc axle - twin or single disc doesn't effect axle length. I bought four from Teo Lamers but only have one left and it has boogered up threads. Harper's has them listed on their website:

Would you also need a different right hand lower fork leg as well?  DonG

For the 4LS front drum? Yes, it needs to have an "anchor" on it the same as the left fork lower. One could be added to a 2LS lower if care was used during welding.
