1997 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sporti for Sale in Denver
« on: January 05, 2018, 08:38:17 PM »
There is an absolute stunning low milage 1997 1100 Sporti for sale in Denver, CO. The owner is a member of the Moto Guzzi National Owners Club, where he just listed this bike for sale yesterday. He is asking $7.2k for this 6.8k miles bike. She also has the nice Staintune full exhaust installed. I think that this bike is priced right for what it is, and I would buy this bike if I didn't already have the same milage bike sitting in my barn. Heck, I may buy it anyway just because!

I was wondering today on the numbers of 1100's that are still out there in original configuration? I have been buying up parts from 96 & 97 models during the past two years, and many of the parts came of original 1100's, which were parted out by their owners. I know of a low 4k miles 1996 which is currently parted out, another 97 fell into the hands of thief's in Burlington, NC, which is close to my home, who burned that bike down probably because they realized that they could not sell or ride this bike without getting caught! Two others that I know off were chopped and made into "Street Fighters, another was totaled out after her owner wrecked his 1100.....

I don't remember the correct unit numbers which were sold in the US in 96 & 97, but I think it was around 200 bikes. So I would almost not be surprised if half of them have been lost by now?

This is the Denver bike:

This is my red 1997

Andy, pretty soon you'll be the owner of all the remaining 96&97's.. cornering the market?

Those are total production numbers, not US import numbers, but I think they are correct.

I knew a plumber once who loved and bought bevel drive Ducatis... He had around 35 or 40 of them stored in the garage and every room in the house.  Seven 750 Sports, three 750SS's and so on.  When they doubled in value, he started selling them thinking his investment had come to fruition.  Then after he sold them they doubled a couple more times. Hard to know what to do when you really love something and they're not too expensive to buy!  Then when do you sell them?

Better to buy what you like and keep them forever

Andy,

Here are the numbers that were posted a few years ago, by another MGNOC member:

Sport 1100

1994: 365
1995: 1,191
1996: 215

Sport 1100 IE

1997: 1,314

So according to the yearly production numbers, there were then a total of 3085 bikes build for the world market between 94-97, if I'm only looking at the 1100 Sport and Sporti's.  Does anybody know how many of the 3085 1100's made it to the US market? I still think that about half of them could possible have been lost by now, which makes these bikes harder and harder to find. I am still looking for a black and a bronze/brown 1100, but I just can't find either of them here in the US for sale. I hope you all keep your eyes and ears open and let me know when you all see one for sale! :)

I'm actually not looking for buying them to flip and make money. I like to think that these bikes will eventually go up in value a little, which would be more useful when having some shop talk with friends or at bike shows in years to come. I actually like the 1100's for the way they look and what they represent for me. I also like the hunt for finding the bikes that I still have missing to complete my collection. I was also so far very fortunate that I paid very little on average for my bikes. For instance, I found my blue 96 in Vancouver for only $1.5k, which included a new set of Michelin tires and a Mistral exhaust with cross over. I work a lot in a pretty stressful job, so I don't really have a lot of time to ride my bikes as much as many other riders ride their bikes. My bikes are a form of stress reduction therapy to me. I can spend hours in my barn just picking out one of my bikes and then detail her with a toothbrush while listening to some great music and having me a beverage or four followed by just pushing her back into a corner again to start all over the next time on a different bike.

Everybody should have such a thing, whatever it takes.

I'd be mildly interested (since I'm in Denver) but the $7.2 price seems over the market to me.  I was thinking $5.5 to $6 would be top dollar, realistic price below that.

If it's a really clean bike with no issues I think that's a fair asking price. I could try a lower asking price just to recoup some of the shipping fees.
I still prefer the earlier carb bikes.
Trying to keep up with Andy is really difficult.

I sold my bronze/brown 97 Sport about 5 years ago, IIRC, for just under $6000. Similar condition, except mine had 15,000 more miles.
I think the Denver red Sport is priced about right, give or take a few hundred. As has been stated in an earlier thread, these are rare bikes to begin with, and the supply of clean, unadulterated specimens is dwindling.

I found the CL ad. The  fairing and tank replacement and a replaced speedo put it at $ 6k for me.

Probably, but that's the way they did it. There is a heavy protective screen in front of the cooler. I had two of these injected sports, and riding over 50,000 miles, never had an issue with the cooler.

Is there possibly a better spot for that oil cooler ?
