Growing up we had an old Fordson Major tractor on the farm, magneto Ignition, I remember seeing my Father shut it off by grounding all 4 plugs with his hands.

I thought that was magic too, until I learned about the shorting strap.

I plugged an 8 ohm speaker into a 110v socket. I got a nice 60 cycle hum.
Followed shortly by a nice bang ??
