CARC ICV Bypass
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:37:33 AM »
Did anyone who put a valve in the line also loose the ICV completely and fit a Tee connector, but leaving the ICV electrically connected?

My ICV is playing around and I'm trying to avoid the £300 for a new one until I've explored the other options

Cheers

You can do that but you need a valve to crack open a bit to let in air for it to start cold then close it off once warm.

I didn't bother removing the stepper motor, I just plumbed the shutoff valve into the hose going to the airbox. The stepper itself still works, just not like I'd like it to.
I turn my valve open for cold start, then when the popping on decel begins I close the valve and am good for the rest of the day.

Jeez that's a pain in the arse to have to do.
Is it not possible to clean the old one ?
Pete gave me a new one  and since he and Beetle have had their grubby paws on it, the bugger runs as clean as a birds bum.
No more contamination of the stepper.

Should I pull the stepper off and clean it while I have the tank off?
Does it come apart?
Pulled the pump out, someone has already done the metal filter thing.  :thumb:
Cleaned the ignition switch, that's no easy task.

Peter

Its had carb cleaner shot through it
The valve bit stuck in a ultrasonic cleaner and buzzed
Plus I hooked it up to a stepper controller and ran it back and forth

On the back of that little lot it appears  to work OK on the bench - except that it leaks a bit one side.

Roy

If its idling OK them probably all good

If the TBs and ICV haven't been cleaned recently though its worth doing - there's a MG Service Note that says you should but I can't remember where I found that

Thanks Tris,
No it doesn't idle that consistently although it may be better than it was (parked for a year) so I will pull it off and give it a blast while I have access.

I'll do the TBs as well I guess

The list keeps getting longer.

.....

The list keeps getting longer.

Strange that isn't it

One of the reasons I sold my 95 Cali was because I got fed up with fixing it.

I've had to "fix" the B11 loads more than I did the Cali - pesky electronics.

Still I had some good news the other day. The LCD on the dash suddenly burst back into life!

So it must be a dodgy connection and a good candidate for Carmo to heal - permanently

Good luck with the Griso I love my B11 when its on song and I'm sure the Griso will be as good
