850-T 950 PHF Jetting
« on: February 25, 2018, 06:56:48 PM »
Hi, folks.

I'm getting closer to completing my 850-T/750S tribute project, and will soon be getting to the point of installing the PHF36 carbs that I picked up for it (thanks Turin!).  I need to order a a few parts, and would like to include the appropriate jets for my setup.  Hoping someone can give some advice as the what would be an appropriate starting point for a 950 with B10 cam, mild porting, Mistral exhaust and Uni filters.  Once I understand the best starting point, I will source a range of jets to allow for tuning.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Cheers,
Shaun

+1 on the final jetting as Geodoc.  My  (tribute)bike is running 850 Gilardonis with 40 thou squish band adjustment. No rebalancing and single plug ignition. Never did dyno it but by seat of the pants the jetting feels about on the money and the bike runs great

You've been sitting on those carbs for a while! My 850-T sport is fairly similar and it ran pretty well with the same carbs ( I had 2 sets) My bike had mild porting, bub conti mufflers K&N pods and a megacycle X-9 cam. I'd ee how she runs before buying a handful of jets. my 2 cents anyway.

Thanks, Gentlemen!  The gives me a good place to start.

Turin, yes, I have been sitting on the carbs (and the bike in general) for far too long.  Several other projects, a crazy-busy career and a cross-country move have all impeded progress at various times.  I'm really looking forward to getting this done!

Cheers,

My LM2 which has 950cc cylinder/pistons in Le Mans spec (Gilardoni), a B10 cam and 36mm PHFs is running as per the LM2 manual with the exception of 148 main jet (manual suggests 140), it was actually set this way when I got it, even with the 850cc pistons (but they were not the original pistons and were a higher compression).

These are the recommended settings copied from the manual;

Throttle valve       60
Atomizer              265 A B
Main jet               140
Idling jet              60
Starter jet            70
Pump jet              38
Taper needle        K5 (2nd notch)
Float                   10 grams
Idling screw         1 1/2 turn open

To be honest I just left them as they were because I didn't know which way to go? and the main jet was already quite large but seeing as I was going bigger I thought it might be a good starting point, but it runs very well so I think it's not far out.

Mine has no filters and 40mm exhaust down pipes with Lafranconi 'competizione' silencers  BTW.

Another good point of reference.  Thanks!

Hey Shaun
Good to hear you are back to the tribute project. I am still fiddling with the jetting on mine. I've tried several combinations and my take away is that it is easy to get too rich. Check your plugs as a guide to final setting. POST PICS PLEASE of the bike when completed. Ride safe.

Thanks, Harry.  Good to hear from you.  Will definitely post pics in the original thread as things progress.

Cheers,
