2009 Stelvio handguard install

I searched but didn’t find a thread on this.

This bike has the dreaded turn signals in the mirror and I’m not ready to replace them so, what’s the trick to putting the OEM hand guards on it?

Take all the plastics off the tank and probably the tank as well to find the connectors, unplug them and pull the whole sorry mess out, fit guards and feed back through, reconnect and put plastics and tank back on I'd guess.

Ah such fun.
Perhaps me should rethink replacing the mirrors and relocating the flashers. 

Simply cut the wires and re-attach to new flashers and location I would hope.

I'll address your second question first. When you decide to replace the mirrors, you do not need to cut any wires. The plugs are actually about in the proper place for the Euro turn signals. All you will need to do is unplug and remove the old mirrors and replace the blank plates with the turn signals and plug them in.

Now, as for your first question, it has been a long time since I messed with this on my bike. It seems like the wire comes out of the turn signal stalk before it goes into the compression fitting. Lift up the rubber boot covering the base of the mirror and check. If it does, you should be able to loosen the compression nut and lift the mirror out of the way. The hand guard will attach below that, so once the mirror is out of the way, you remove the fitting from the lever assembly and trap the hand guard beneath it. If that is not an option, it might be easiest to get to where the bulb is located and see if you can unplug the wires at that end. Something makes me think you should not need to do that, but................ .....

Anyway, have a look at it first.

As an aside, I really liked the concept of the turn signals being out where they get noticed better, but in my case, the mirrors were useless and I could not wait to get them off. The replacements were much more usable. I could actually see behind with them. If the originals had been that good, I would have kept them.

Actually I think John's right. The cabling comes out above the olive fitting. I think the boot is actually formed with a channel in it for that very purpose. I'll have a look at my small tank bike's set up tomorrow before it , hopefully, goes off to its new home.

I personally dislike the dorky indicators in the mirrors. They look like a cheap gimmick for a scooter which is, oddly, exactly what they were!

I agree the mirrors are useless as they blur horribly. Of course most bikes I've ridden have suffered from this malady so, there ya go.

I installed a pair of hand guards on my 2009 when it still had the turn-signal-mirrors.   I won them as a door prize at a Guzzi rally (donated by our own mojohand, actually!), and installed them on the spot.   They go like Zoom Zoom says, for the reason that Pete says.

The mirrors came apart like a cheap Crackerjack toy a few thousand miles later, but hey .....

When you do decide to replace the mirrors, either by choice or necessity, I did not need to take apart any body work. I did have to get to the plug to disconnect the mirror wires, which as I had mentioned are near the original turn signal locations where the blank plate is now. It took some time to fiddle around with, but is doable.
