1400 Hard Bags on an 1100?
« on: March 22, 2018, 04:50:05 PM »
I found a sweet deal on a set of Guzzi branded hard bags that look like they came off a 1400 Touring. I'm wondering how difficult they would be to mount on my Cali Stone. Does anyone have experience with this, or care to speculate on how it would be? Thanks.

I'm sure it is doable. Just so you know, the hard 1400 touring bags have a known problem with leaking.  I really like the c-bow mounts as they are quick detach and accommodate many different pannier options.

Thanks for the tips Lucian. I went and looked at them and they have a lot of contours that fit around the 1400's shocks etc. There wasnt much mounting hardware with them either. I passed.

Sounds like you made the right choice. The mounting is very different from the Tonti frame bikes. My suggeation was going to be get then for trading stock if the price is right. Otherwise, be on the lookout for a set of bags and brackets from a Vintage, which wpold probably mount with little or no fuss.

I have owned both a Cal 1400 Touring and a Cal Vintage. Both with factory bags. The Cal 1400 had some of the worst bags imaginable, I finally had to drill a drain hole in the bags so my stuff wan't floating in a lake after a ride through the rain. The 1100 Vintage had great bags from the factory. Put some Vintage bags on your Stone, not the 1400 versions...

I wasn't really looking for bags anyway, but these might have been too good a deal to pass up. I have a single K-Drive bag I bought from someone who trashed the other one in a laydown. I really like the K-Drive mounting system. What I'd really like is the mate to the bag I have, but the odds of finding one are slim. https://www.classiccruiser.com/product.asp?item=578680
