So this will be a warranty repair? Did you buy an extended warranty or does the powertrain warranty go out that far? (in years & miles)
When i bought the truck new it had 100,000 miles, 5 year powertrain warranty. It has about 90,000 miles on it and the five year will be expired in July of 2019.
Good deal for you. The reliability lab misjudged by 10000 miles, though. The idea is to get it *through* the warranty period..
Change number 37. The dealership just called back and stated they also discovered a hole in a piston and a crack in the block, so new engine time........
A leak down would have told the tale, but I'll guess broken ring/scored cylinder wall.
Looks like you will be getting a brand new engine under warranty.
So....a question I have. Are these trucks inherently bad? Is it just going to blow up another engine? Would you look for a different make truck and dump this one, or ride out the new engine warranty of 100,000 more miles and 3 more years and keep this one ?? It is a 2014, 5.7 HEMI, with 90000 miles (0 on new engine)......
Since you're not paying for the new engine and it's warranty, I'm guessing the warranty on it will expire in 10K when the truck hits 100K. you still get a new engine tho.
Find out it it's transferable too. Maybe drive it till the warranty is close to the then sell.
