So....I am NOT a major engine rebuilding guy. Im not an idiot either and I understand the workings of an Internal Combustian Engine.

The dealership called me back and said Cylinder #3 had a stuck valve and broken valve guide springs. They said they also are putting in a new head which is being overnighted to them from another dealership because they are on backorder through Chrysler.

So they are estimating two-three days to completion.

So stuck valve with broken valve springs and a new head is what they said. They further said they would not do a re-conditioned head or send the head out for reconditioning because the vehicle is under warranty and a new head is what RAM stated needed to be done.

Hope Im getting all the info correct.......

So this will be a warranty repair? Did you buy an extended warranty or does the powertrain warranty go out that far? (in years & miles)

Glad to hear it's warranty. I know your out some time and trouble but it could on your dime and that would suck.

When i bought the truck new it had 100,000 miles, 5 year powertrain warranty. It has about 90,000 miles on it and the five year will be expired in July of 2019.

Good deal for you. The reliability lab misjudged by 10000 miles, though.

The idea is to get it *through* the warranty period..

Yep....now I have to think and try to decide if it is going to be a re-occurring problem and whether i should trade it in/sell it, and buy something else, or just keep it until it blows up! lol........

I figured with that kind of compression reading it was more serious than a valve spring..

Yep originally truck came with 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The new engine comes with three year/100,000 mile warranty. Not as good but its better than zero!!

1. Valve spring fails- due to installed rusty, bad luck, etc.
2. Valve stays open and piston hammers it cockeyed. Valve sticks in guide.
3. Piston gets damaged- hole, or weak spot.
4. Piston cracks from impact/heat cycles. Expands/sticks/cocks in bore.
5. Cocked piston cracks cylinder wall.

6. You win.
Ask your auto insurance agent if you have lodging coverage due to breakdown.

So....a question I have. Are these trucks inherently bad? Is it just going to blow up another engine? Would you look for a different make truck and dump this one, or ride out the new engine warranty of 100,000 more miles and 3 more years and keep this one ?? It is a 2014, 5.7 HEMI, with 90000 miles (0 on new engine)......

Since you're not paying for the new engine and it's warranty, I'm guessing the warranty on it will expire in 10K when the truck hits 100K. you still get a new engine tho.

Those engines are as good as any. You just got some bad luck. If the rest of the truck is still pretty nice and you like it, why get a payment? Figure the transmission will need replacement in another 50k miles.

Dealership says new engine comes with NEW 100,000 mile 3 year warranty on the engine. Il see what I get in writing.

Yep,, things turned out pretty darn well considering. I dont have the truck back yet though so we shall see how it all comes out when done!

I got my truck back today. Dealership installed a brand new 5.7 liter hemi engine into my 2014 Ram Truck under warranty. They did it in 3 days!!! Awesome service and I am one lucky guy!!!!

Make sure to check for pinched hoses and missing fasteners. The kids they use for techs get rushed and can miss stuff!

I bought a new RAM Pickup back in '04. It was a great truck until some kid in his grandma's Jeep wagon totaled it for me.
