750 Ambo complete on Ebay. What it's worth? is it risky?
« on: April 26, 2018, 04:22:43 PM »
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Guzzi/132591160549?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144
Advertised as a complete 750 Ambo engine taken out of a running bike and right now bids are up to $580.
Engine has a decent amount of oxidation on it. And no video/audio of the bike running before it was torn down.
So I assume this is a chrome engine. MY question is, it worth the chance on buying an engine like this when the it make be toast on the inside?
Seller has a 100% rating but still is there a big risk to take on this engine?
I am not in the market for this and know only what I read here about the old chrome cylinder engines.  So I am curious as the risk as I have not seen some selling a complete "running" engine with chrome cylinders.

Busted fins on the cylinder heads are a big warning sign IMO. It's an early "A-series" Ambo engine too which is basically a V700 engine with a 3 mm larger bore. Small valves, single valve springs and a few other things that are different than later Ambo engines.

IMO no, heck no. eBay sellers often part out a bike and for their time they can make some pretty good money. A complete bike is cheap compared to the sum total of the individual parts sold separately on an auction site like eBay.

I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't buy any motor unless I could hear it run in person.

It should be viewed as a good core, maybe. Take it apart and find that it is worn out and needs everything, everyone that I have been into turns out this way.... DonG

PA.....assume worse for the engine.  Chrome cylinders.
