Norge box: Open Close knob

I recently bought a 2015 Norge. It has the Moto Guzzi top box on it. Inside the box there is a knob that seems to have two positions labeled OPEN and CLOSE, although I can't easily turn the knob and so I haven't changed the position.



What is this for?

Turn it and you can take the plastic panel off. This would be my guess.

It's actually a device for locking the mechanism that attaches the trunk to the bike. In the open position, turning the key in the opposite direction to that used for opening the trunk will allow the trunk to be removed. The closed position acts as a safety to prevent the mechanism from allowing the trunk off the bike accidentally. The first generation Norge trunks didn't have this - and more than a few departed their owners' bikes at speed, resulting in major damage to trunk and contents. Ask me how I know...

If the box is on the bike, the switch should be in the closed position and you should check that removal has been prevented.

This is exactly right. Basically if you turn to the closed position it will lock the bag to the rack. In the open position it will let you remove it from the rack.

OK, thanks. Knowing what it does I gave it a twist with more authority and it turned. Sure enough locked to the rack in CLOSED and able to remove in OPEN.
