In order to bring closure to this thread, the fix was a new TPS (PF3-C from GP Motorcycles of San Diego, CA). Although the old TPS metered OK, all of the symptoms seemed to point at the TPS....so, it was $85 well spent. A small adjustment was also made to the air bleed and idle speed settings on both sides. Thanks to all who participated in the resolution of this issue.

Rode 100 miles this afternoon, just to make sure the TPS fix was for real.....wheels are still attached. Thanks again

I know it has already been said, but thanks for posting your fix.
Hopefully it will help someone else down the road.

Here is a pic of the subject bike of this thread....a new TPS and minor adjustments to the idle/air bleed screws seems to have got things back to normal. Got plans for a 200 mile ride tomorrow!!
