Va Guzzi rally....food
« on: June 01, 2018, 10:43:35 AM »
Hi, Just a word about meals at our rally. We have both the Friday & Saturday night meals catered. Because of Willville's  location. The caterer is literally in a different county. The cost of the food, prep, transport, tax etc. add up to a serious cost-per-plate. It is the biggest single expense Bob has to deal with. The caterers need  a final count on the number of meals by June 11th. Last year we had 48 pre registered & 78 attendees, There were a number of that 30 who did contact Bob in time to up the meal order, but a considerable number did not (more than the few "extra" meals ordered). I've been involved in putting on the Va rally for 34 years now. To my way of thinking, there is nothing worse than inviting folks to an event, then not being able providing everything advertised, it rips me up. Last year, signing in a late comer, I explained that there might not be food for him. He smirked at me & said "You always order extra, I'll get something to eat" He has no idea how close he came to getting a "knuckle sandwich".
Bob simply cannot order 16 or even 10 "extra" meals that might have to be donated locally because weather or some other factors reduced rally turn-out....not and keep the over-all cost of the rally in reason.
So, PLEASE contact Bob by the 11th if you are even thinking about coming. If plans fall through you can send regrets to Bob up to the 19th, or to me "ronkom(at)vaguzzi(dot)com" on the 20th. (Bob will be at Willville (poor cel coverage) the 20th).
Thanks Much to all the folks who have made our rally a success year after year.

Good post, Ron. People seem to have no idea what it's like to have food for a rally. Mother was in the food business, and she always told me that the trick was to have enough, but not too much.  People that show up at the last minute really should not expect to be fed.. <shrug>

An accurate meal count is essential for good rally planning. No one wants to turn away a participant because the food has run out.

Rally organizers and volunteer cooks spend a lot of time, effort and
up -front expense to provide an enjoyable rally experience, do your part by letting them know that you will be attending.
