I've been a street rider exclusively since the early 80's, and all my bikes are street machines. Not really interested in the Adventure Tourer or off road bike. My thinking (as muddled as it is) is adding another purely street bike even as tempting and beautiful as the V7iii Classic, meets the 'smaller and lighter' but thats about it. I cant imagine any serious off road riding, but having the ability/option of riding on gravel and hard packed dirt, and fire roads and a smaller lighter bike may fit the bill, and hep with the rationalizing to SWMBO (she who must be obeyed). She is supportive, and patient with my mechanical toys, and I help by never effecting the family budget, but you gotta leverage where you can ;-)

The V85 is interesting, but not my cup of tea. I like the scrambler concept, always have, and this seems the right time. Of course I will probably change my mind, but we will see.

I've wasted a lot of time in my life "justifying" what should have been easily characterized as "the heart wants what it wants".

Don't over think it.

Hi Steve- great thread- interesting stories from everyone. I know what u mean about those XS Yamahas- they were terrific bikes. Remember the Black and Gold "Midnight" series?   I've had about 25 MCs, over my 50 years of riding or so. The one I most regret selling (to this day) was the blue Suz GS1000 1979 Standard, with points ignition. The day it got ridden away, after selling it to my neighbor- I felt an inkling of regret. Haha- still regret it- what a fine standard UJM that was. What an engine those big In Line fours were.

My current stable of 5 (Which represent 4 different parts of the world's MC production) is:

W650 Kawasaki '00
Harley FXDX '02
Ducati MTS 1100S '09
Moto Guzzi Calif Vintage '09
BMW RNineT Pure '18

At one time I was up to (8.) Didn't go over with the new wife- but she is OK with (5)

Anything new or used that comes in now- something on the list will have to go. And I want none of those bikes to "go."
So- there they are- BTW are all registered, fueled, insured and ridden regularly on a "rotating" basis. The FXDX is getting new Pirellis this week.
