A couple days ago I received my tall, wide Touring windshield and lowers from Clearview Shields, for my 2015 1400 tourer

. After the installation, which was simple and no issues were encountered, I went out for a ride and here's the results.
Up to 80 mph I was in a calm pocket of air and NO BUFFERING was experienced, resulting in a pleasant ride. The lowers are an experiment between Clearview and myself but can be purchased shortly. This shield is hundreds less than the factory " large or Touring " shield, less than 200 bucks. It is offered in 3 sizes in height and 2" wider than factory. Hope the pictures help.

Thanks for working with Clearview on this, Danny.  It looks great for late Fall and early Spring riding in New England.  I might order their largest version tomorrow.

Glad you're happy with em!

I'm expecting a mid-height, recurved top, wide, dark tint, vented shield for my RK from them to arrive today and I'm very excited, but hope I didn't screw myself on the height. We'll see. I went more for a compromise than anything.

Clearview worked with my on a Thunderbird 1600.  They were great and build something similar to what you have.
It worked great but I sold that bike.  The only one ever I wasn't sad to see go.  Not bad-just not very entertaining to ride.

Let us know how it works and the height, line of site ratio.

Well, full disclosure. I'm a moron.

I was looking/hoping for a shorter windshield, with dark tint, that would work instead of the OEM one on the RK.

I'd hoped going wider, with the recurve and vent would be enough, but the height difference of 4.5" (the tallest one they would sell in dark tint without a custom order) was too much.

I mounted it and tested it for about 2.5 hours today.

The manufacturing tolerances were dead on.

The vent assembly is a fantastic feature.

The recurve probably helped minimize the difference. They claim it makes a shield act like it's 2" taller and I swear if I slouched an extra 2" today it seemed to make up the 4.5" difference so they're probably right.

But I decided for the money I wanted it to be just right.

So I called them and arranged an exchange for a custom cut (read that as non-returnable) that is only 1.5" shorter than my stock shield. With all the other features (recurve, vent, wider etc.) it ought to be even better than stock and still have that dark tint I wanted.

Bottom line I'd say the customer service and manufacturing are both top of the line.

I also suspect their recommendations for sizing are spot on. But if you're lazy like me the old rule of thumb (even with chin or lower lip) is probably close enough.

Can't wait for the replacement.

The dark tint looks cool, but you might want to consider the light tint. Light tint looks better than clear on my EV, but you can see through the shield decently at night. I look over the shield, but it's nice to see up close as well!

Clearview is not the cheapest replacement, but they do have shields for many bikes that only a factory replacement can be had. And, they may have size options as well!

I've had various shields in lighter tint, but there's not much of a difference between them and the clear when it comes to both looks and maintenance (bugs).

For me, I can see clearly over the OEM 22" shield with lots of room to spare, so I have no qualms with the 20.5" dark tint shield I've reordered.

For reference the one pictured is 17.5".

And this all mounts in my spare windshield brackets. I still have the clear 22" stock one if I want/need.

That said, I've just about never needed to look through any of the windshields I've ever had on bikes, an that includes the taller OEM on this king.

But I appreciate the thoughts.

On my Loops, I have the National Cycle HD police style shields, same as Harley police with the adjustable headlight slot. I look over as well, never been comfortable looking through a shield while looking down the road. I only mentioned the color when you need to look just a few feet in front. I ride through an area that can have some pointy debris. So I like a close to the bike clean view.

Enjoy your new shield!! :thumb:

You guys that feel the need to look over the windshield, does that mess you up in your car when driving down the road 😂
Just funning with y'all:). My years of being a motor officer, it was the first thing we did to the new bikes, were to order the extra tall windshield. I won't argue the differences because most points are subjective and personal preference however our leaders had a couple reasons, that is hard to dispute. A taller shield thats looked through is safer, as it is less likely you will get hit in the face and eyes with large  bugs and debris coming off the tires of vehicles in front of you and I've had dozens hit my windshield where my face woukd have been. Also there is much more protection from rain, Better off the shield than off the face and eyes or even glasses. We would wax our shields and seeing clear in rain was never an issue.  The new shields do not distort your vision as the prior generations did. My new Clearview is a clear as a car shield. I love tinted  but since I look through the shield, it's too dark at night.  Anyway it's one of those things of whatever works for you. It's an interesting topic to discuss among buddies.

Well don't get me wrong. I understand why it might be preferable to at least have the option to look through the shield. And fwiw, at least during the day, that's still an option with tint.

I also get how a tall windshield can offer better protection than a short one.

Fwiw even the short(er) one I'm returning would block sand, rocks, bugs, etc. It basically only gave me a little buffeting from wind carrying around or over the shield that wouldn't likely carry stones or bugs.

Anyway, I can't recommend Clearview more from a quality or customer service standpoint! I'm very glad I ordered from them. I might have to upgrade the shield on the Sporty next!

The shields for the 1400 is completely new as I have the first one that was produced and it's more or less an experimental version. I have sent them an assessment this week after putting enough miles in verious conditions to determine that it's a great shield. The only thing I suggested different was the space between the bottom of the shield and the headlight housing is about 1.5 inches and I would have brought it down to no more than 1/2" to keep more water from reaching the ridder.
Call them to order a shield and lowers for the 1400. The price list is not even public yet.

I assume that Clearview will offer the Cali 1400 shield in a number of heights now that they have the bolt pattern dimensions.

They are a manufacturing company and basically cut each shield to order.

You select a shield to match existing (generally OEM) mounting, then you select from options which can include:

* Height
* Tint (dark, light, clear)
* Recurved at top or not
* Vented or not (5 position adjustable vent)
* Width (stock and one or more oversize)

Kev, they will offer three sizes starting with the factory hight and go up somewhere area 2" each change. They are also 2" wider than OEM. A good measuring method would be to use my situation. It's 30" from my belt line to the top of my head and I look throttle shield with 2-3 inches above my line of site, so the next size down I woukd be looking directly at the top edge of the shield which would be unacceptable for me. You can get tint or clear but I don't know how dark tint actually is. I chose clear due to night ridding and I didn't know how well I woukd be able to see though the tinted.

Well, just an FYI, they WILL cut them shorter or between sizes if you want. They add a charge on for that ($40) and it makes the shield non-returnable.

They also generally have 3 levels of tint, clear, light tint and DARK tint. The light tint is pretty light. I think they said it lets 75% through (I forget, but they list it on the website). Again, they will likely make any shield in any of the 3 tints, but it may make it non-returnable.

To the rest - IF you order one of their shields in standard configurations it is shipped covered both sides in protective wrapping. You can test mount it with the wrapping still in place (that's what you see in my photos above) and go for a test ride. If you don't like it you can return or exchange it (you pay shipping).

That's fantastic customer service. And in my case I decided I wanted something taller, but not a standard size, so they cut a 21" down to 20.5 to get the precise height for which I was asking (and in the dark tint, which they don't normally make in that tall a shield). So I'm sure they'll work with guys to get it exactly the way they want it.
