NGC - Don't sneeze vigorously !

While cutting the lawn today, I had to sneeze.  A big one.  And it caused me to have a pain in the rib cage area that truly hurt, for several minutes.

I thought I'd torn muscles, and decided to pass it off.  Except I've had two open heart surgeries over the past 17 years (2001 and 2016.)

So went to the Cleveland Clinic.  After four hours and a few tests (EKG and a few blood tests looking for a specific enzyme associated with heart attacks,) i was released.  Than God!  I worry a lot when I have something like this happen.  In 2001, I had been having tightness of breath, so went to the hospital, where they ran a few tests.  The doc said 'we'll need to run a few more tests.'  'OK.'  'Well, we need to run them downtown.'  'OK. give me driving directions.'  'Oh, don't worry ..... we'll get you there!'  A week and a half later, I emerged after 6 bypasses.  So that's why I worry when I go in for a few simple tests.

At this time the diagnosis is that I've torn something ........ muscle, tendon?

Guess I need to take it easy for a few days.

Hi Bob,
I see a lot of people mowing with simple white breathing masks, like you wear at the Dr office when you're sick.  Might be worth it if it prevents a sneeze or two.

It is entirely possible to crack or break a rib with a hard sneeze. That would be entirely consistent with your description. Surprised they apparently didn’t take x-rays.

Larry, I inadvertently missed mentioning the X ray(s.) They took several, read them, and said they saw nothing broken.  Maybe an ultrasound would show torn muscle, if any existed.

When I sneeze really hard, I see sparkles like inside a snow globe.
My son laughs his ass off when I say "Oh! Look at the pretty sparkles!" as everyone is saying bless you!
