Givi top case, what do you think?
« on: July 18, 2018, 12:42:25 PM »
I'm planning a trip at end of August to Gaspé Peninsula (Quebec) and I needed some extra storage to transport all my cameras, drone, chargers, etc. Not a big fan of top cases but after looking for feasible solutions looks like the top case is the best option. Decided to go with Givi E350, cheap ($270.00 CAD including shipping from Japan), it fits well and doesn't interfere with opening lids of side cases. I also installed Laminar Lip, new lithium battery, new tires and still have to install the Matris steering dumper which I purchased few months ago and never had chance to put it on the bike.

Well, I have to admit I'm NOT thrill with the look of my Cal-Vin plus top-case but good news is I will be wearing full face helmet so nobody will see how embarrass I'm and won't be able to recognize me

Actually that doesn't look half bad.

That said, if you'd asked ahead of time, I probably would have suggested you check out the HB Orbitz topcase, it's similar and inexpensive especially for an HB, but I like the blacked out look.

I think that looks good on there.   :thumb:  The latest Breva we picked up, came with the Givi box with the brake light accessory.  I dig it.

The only thing I dislike about Givi trunks is that you need the key to open and close the box...   (unless I'm missing something...and I usually am)

Our aprilia (Shad) trunk allows for opening and closing the trunk without the key.  Very convenient.

Thank you all for kind words but I'm still not 100% sure I will keep it, there is big chance it will be posted for sale on Kijiji.

@Kev m: The Givi E350 top case was the only solution I could find for my Cal-Vin which looks half dissent. Even now Google search doesn't shows anything when searching for 'HB Orbitz topcase'. In any case, too late now :( BTW, I love your HD Police Edition, great looking bike. Wonder if you have top case for this bike and if you do I would love to see pictures. Thanks!

@rdbandkab: The Givi case is very primitive, there is no light hookup, the red plastic on top of the lid is just pure 'decoration'. It took me a while (with help of Google Search) to figure out how to lock the top lid :)

@Daleroso: I bought this steering dumper: https://www.matrisdampers.com/en/prodotto/products/sdr/ which apparently has the SpeedSensitive system. Could you please elaborate on the 'Please be carefull with that steering dumper installed' statement? Thanks!

Great looking bike but it looks way better without top case, sorry :)

The Orbit top case is good buy, and looks like my Givi box is not even close as far as workmanship and finish details. The only problem it is too wide for the Cal-Vin. I won't be able to open side cases without removing top case from the bracket :(
