Estimated Auction Price:  $56,000

Estimated Auction Price if they find a little "Von Dutch"-painted gnome under the number plate: $173,000

Be aware that unless you can find a picture of McQueen pointing to the VIN , there is almost no way to prove this was actually his . There were at least two fakes , how do I know , because "the" McQueen Husky was in a museum in Oklahoma , only problem was , there was another one in California at the same time

I don't get it, it's just a Husky. Without Steve on it it's just a bike, ya know? It's like having the pencil that the Bard wrote King Lear with. The talent lies in the user, tools are tools.

You and me and a few others believe that, but McQueen-mad auction goers don't!

A few years ago, at a McQueen auction, McQueen's Rolls Royce sold for $70,000.    Next item up were the Persol sunglasses that McQueen wore in "The Thomas Crown Affair".    THEY went for $70,000 also.

If you can answer the question "What's the big deal?   They're just a plastic pair of sunglasses ....", you'll have found the key to Idol Worship ... !

Exactly ! There is no logic in the values ...that said who cares ?  Let people spend money on what they want to spend their money on. Dusty to your point  Caveat emptor  let the buyer ask for the correct documentation or provenance
Fun to look at ... interesting to see the history

Who cares about folks and their choices with their $$

I agree Frank , just saying there is almost no way to document the history of a motorbike that didn't have a title .

There have been some very exotic cars quite literally cut in half to create two cars with provenance , and some motorbikes have been faked also .

^^^ Yep , and there are probably at least another 4 that have been faked .

Anyone want to buy the Panhead that Priscilla presented to Elvis for his B-day , I know a guy who is a cousin of the guy whose boss bought it at an estate auction . It is for sale again , the owner is only asking $100K , sounds like a bargain doesn't it ?

Well, we don't have to really "care"; we're just discussing it on a list created expressly for having such discussions.   I'm all for people moving money around, maybe I can catch some on the way past .... . !

Sad that. Is the Elvis bike thing for real ? I did hear that they sold the jet that has been parked at Graceland for so long. Now that seems like a difficult forge.

Frank , the Elvis bike thing is as real as any rumor can be . It resurfaces every few years , and the story always goes something like this .

My brother's boss went to an estate sale and bought an old Harley pretty cheap . It hasn't ran in 25 years , seems he paid like a $1,000 for it , figured it had to worth at least that much . So he gets it home and starts cleaning off the dirt daubers nests , finds the VIN , and decides to call the factory to order some parts . He gives them the VIN , and the factory guy comes back a few minutes later and offers $100K for the bike , sight unseen . Now this piques the new owners interest , so he starts checking the old Harley a bit closer and finds an inscription that reads ; Happy Birthday , love, Priscilla" . Goodness , he knows this must mean it is the HD that Elvis owned , and the factory is trying to cheat him out of money , so he starts making a few phone calls, and doggonnit , next thing Jay Leno has called and offered him $200K .

I usually stop them at this point and finish the story with some other version heard over the years, and explain to the person repeating the nonsense that you don't just "call the factory" , and that the K model and the FL that Elvis owned are already in captivity . I've heard the story at least once every few years , heck , Leno even addressed the part about calling the new owner , said he has a guy who knows what is what who makes the contacts , and he had never offered any amount for an Elvis Harley . Still the rumor persists .

I understand those who like this bike, and others that were in movies.
But if you had it, would you ride it, or just look at it?
Why not get yourself a Husky (or whatever bike you dream about) and build your own replica?
Then you could ride the wheels off it, and probably enjoy the build up as much as the ride.

I've never ridden one but it was Malcom's riding that gave them cred.

Ride it!!! I have no use for a Trailer Queen! And building them is as much fun as riding to me, that's a win-win!

I know of a prominent Guzzi guru that would restore a vintage bike and "give" it to a celebrity to ride.   "If you like it pay me, if not give it back".  The celeb would title it and ride it.  They'd either buy it for big bucks, or give it back with said title and worth more $$$ on the block.  SMART!
