Still pointless...project stuck

 I've posted on this problem before, but to refresh: I have a Guzzi 125 Tuttotereno that I'm trying to bring back to life. This gem was never officially imported, so parts are unobtanium in the US. I've had this thing a while. Back when Cosmopolitan Motors was still in business I  bought all the bits I needed for this project (I thought). Looking at parts books etc. it was obvious that this 125 two-stroke motor was used in several models, some badged as Benellis & some as Guzzis. So I bought all the bits for a Benelli badged enduro that appeared identical. All was cool until I opened the nos DANSI box & looked at the points.....no joy. For what ever reason the factories used different DANSI magnetos on the bikes. I have no Guzzi, Benelli, or DANSI part numbers for the correct points. Bummer is that I pitched the rusty old points from the magneto back when I bought all the new parts, so I can't even take a picure of what I need (as requested by several sources in Europe).

What I have:
My best guess is that the bike was built in 1975 or '76
The steering head is stamped   DGM 12988 OM   on one side  and MC*16749 MOTO GUZZI  on the other.
The motor is stamped   MOTO GUZZI MC*11572*       (the * is a 5 pointed star)
The Magneto flywheel is stamped  ASL 308 NB, and DANSI w/a directional arrow

I found an on line parts book for a Guzzi 125 Turismo street bike that appeared to be the same frame & motor w/ different wheels etc. for the street. I ordered points......& got the exact same thing I already have from Cosmo, DANSI COD 405042 ex3788/1-5735/1.....anybody need 2 sets of NOS DANSI points ?? According to ads on e-bay they fit the Benelli fireball & Dynamo 50 & 65) and, I guess, the Guzzi 125 Turismo!

Points are just contacts to break the circuit.  Any points that physically fit and can be gapped will work.  Don't be afraid to take a dremmel to a set that's close to get the clearances you need.

Re checked the parts manuals for the Guzzi 125 "Turismo" & "Trail" which are the same basic bike.
They both list the same points part number...which turned out to be the Benelli points I already have BUT they list different part numbers for the whole magneto:
Turismo 125,  35 71 24 80       Trail 125,  335 71 24 70     Yes I will buy a whole magneto if I have to.
In a shop manual that covered both bikes (& several Benelli models), they refer to the "trail" as "Endoro, & list the magneto outputs as: Turismo  "6v, 18W"   Enduro  "6v -25+5W"  The "-" in front of the 25 may be a dash, I'm looking at a copy of however many copies printed from the on-line site.

Look at the stator picture. & visualize the point set mounted on the post & the hold down screw in place.....the machined area for inserting a small screwdriver & adjusting the points is covered & wouldn't be usable. The correct point set will have the contacts on the left side so the adjustment slot can be reached through the opening in the flywheel.

I just noticed a fumble-finger in the Guzzi part for the whole magnetos listed above:
125 Trail (Enduro)     35 71 24 70
125 Turismo              35 71 24 80

 Hey ronkom,
  Your picture of your plate and coils sparked (get it) an old Honda plate I had buried away....Look at the pics. These are off a 70's atc/sl 70 motor.

 



 The distance from the pivot of the points to the center of the plate is about .850" If you have a Honda dealer nearby  they may have it in stock and you could test  fit.

RR, Thanks much for the reply. The layout of the mag is very similar, but the Honda points are "unit" (my term) meaning they incorporate the post the contact arm rotates on. On my Dansi mag the post is permanently mounted  to the stater plate and the point set is 2 piece.
I found a set of points on ebay in Italy that look right in the pictures, ordered them last night. Even if they are not the right ones , maybe I can modify them to work , as Rodekill suggested.
I WILL get this damn bike running!

  Hopefully the ones from Italy willl work. If not, the post on yours is probably removed from the backside of the plate and possible upgrade to a single unit type,
 may be an alternative. Good Luck.

One of the European sources I've been in contact with asked if the post was removable (threaded & screwed into the base). It is not, it looks like the head of a rivet...peened in place. I'd have to grind it out. Someone, Somewhere has the points, a whole magneto, or at least a parts book for the '76 125 Tuttotereno so I can get the correct Guzzi part numbers.
It's just a matter of finding him/her!   LOL!!
