Is this a NO NO
« on: August 27, 2018, 03:22:26 PM »
Is it bad, possibly causing damage to the transmission, to rest your heal on the back of a heal/toe shifter when ridding after getting to 6th gear on a 1400 tourer?

Well, it's not like a clutch... riding the gear shift lever won't do any harm that I know of. Just seems... unnecessary?
Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

It's a foot position thing. With floorboards there is obviously several positions one can plant their feet on extended rides, for comfort and to relieve pressure on ones arse by getting your feet directly under you. I have had several bikes in the past with boards with heal/toe shifters and always removed the back one as they could be unbolted. The 1400 does not offer the removal by removing a bolt, one must use a hacksaw which I find distasteful. Maybe I should have went into more detail the first time around.

You will probably find that it is against a hard 'stop', and is not able to move out of place.
I know that in other gear positions, any pressure on the shifter might side load the shift fork and wear it. Or in extreme cases, pop it out of gear and round off the shift 'dogs'.

On my 2013 Touring, the rear arm of the shifter unbolted.

Lol, it's amazing what one can see if they open their eyes:(  so does my 2015 tourer.

I like the heal toe shifter so if it does not hurt anything I may just rest my sole on it occasionally. Thanks for the enlightenment Stephen;)

I was riding a demo RK yesterday and early on put my for on the left board and thought wtf is my boot hitting... Glanced down and thought DOH yeah, this one still has the heel shifter lol.

I too always remove them. Cut it off my Jackal early on too.

Yea I took the one off my Electra Glide Classic but got to liking them again with the 1400 tourer. My 78 Electra glide police bike had the heal/toe and it was great in keeping the boots nice prior to inspections. :)

Your "heel" is what you are resting on the lever..
A "heal" is what you will feel like if you break your bike..

I cut a bit off heel shifter & replaced  rubber,.also..I filed off small bit at bottom of brake lever (where it hits the stop & brake  switch ) that way boot fits under brake pedal, for more room
