Warranty coverage? 2016 V7II

Hi guys, I recently had a leak at the rear shaft, so I took it to my local dealer thinking it could have been covered u see warranty. It ended up being a faulty drain plug washer, which I was charged for. Just wanted to check to see if you guys would know, should thag have been covered under warranty?

The bike is a 2016 that I purchased new in May 2017. Even worse is that it started to leak again so I’m gonna take it back in to get repaired again. What do you guys think?

That's a wear item, like the oil filter. Ask them to use an aluminum one instead of the rubber inserted steel one. Good luck getting your $2 back.

So how much were you charged to change a plug washer? Enquiringly minds etc......

Has anyone removed that plug before?  Or was it from the factory that way?  Guessing it had never been removed before ... seems that should be free.  Basically new bike with an oil leak, why should you have to pay for the service work to make it stop leaking?

I’ll have to check how much they charged for the gasket itself, but I paid $80 because i needed a few other things checked at that time. So it was a diagnostic fee 

And no, no one had ever messed with that bolt. I’m the original owner

it is a wear item and if no service had been done on it before, a good case could be made for it being an assembly issue.  Then again, for something that minor you might want to pull your punches for if you should really need them down the line.  My guess is their response may have been driven by their inability to turn it in for compensation.  Then again if you bought it from them and they have done the service, I would have expected them to correct it, no charge.   If it's not their bike tho, they would have no idea as to it's history.  Guzzi like Harley tends to be pretty good at standing behind their bikes, I which I could say that for a number of other bikes I've owned.

IMO that should have been covered.  Who did the fluid change at 900 miles?

When I bring a bike in for a potential warranty claim I tell them I am NOT authorizing any work other than warranty covered work.  I will fix it myself if warranty doesnt cover it.

Pay attention to that... it might not be the washer at all. That just happens to be the lowest point on the bevel box.

Thanks, I’ll take a better look at it tonight. It’s annoying having oil all over my rear tire.

If they were the one who did the work last time, warranty or not, it should be on their dime to ensure the bike is in good running condition when they gave back to you...beside the obvious abuse to the bike that is.

I know it is only 2 bucks or so for the washer to stop the leak (hopefully that is it), but it is a hassle for you as you did nothing to it to cause the leak. Personally, in this case, I wouldn't pay for this "repair".

Edit: Dear god, I just saw your $80 diagnostic fee?!?!?! Oh ya, I def will talk to them and sort this out...

It is not like you went to a track and did a burnout and blown an engine...
