I'll say this, I've not ridden a Scout, but when I sat on a couple, they seem really well put together. Sitting on one with my feet on the floor it was very comfortable, and for a rider who likes to ride permanently in the highway peg posture, seems like a great bike. For me, it's too low, and I'd have to learn to love diving into a turn with my feet out there. Unlike many here I think they're beautiful bikes. I just don't think it would work for me.

If I'm not mistaken the OP was throwing the whole Indian lineup out there. Saw this hack and spoke with the owner a while back. For this application I could see it, for sure. Cornering is already out the equation

Up close? Indian did a hell of a job. Fit and finish is amazing, and they knocked it out of the park with the "classic" style. Of the two... the Chief would be my choice, simply because the Scout seems to be of limited utility.

Agreed, but damnit they're sooooooo damn big. As in even bigger/heavier than the Harleys.

They tend to be about ~4" longer in wheelbase than an RK (2" more than a Cali 1400) and ~7" longer on overall length than the RK/Cali, with similar wet weights to the Harleys of same design.

But at least they're not Kawi's! (ick).

Oh, it's huge, no doubt. But for sheer comfort and highway cruising, he absolutely loves it.

Having spent some time wandering in the U.S., I find that distances between gas are far shorter, in general, than they are in western/northern Canada. With mid-pegs, and a larger tank, the Scout would have been a solid contender for me.

Aaron, aren't you a former Jackal owner? Did you address the pegs? Seriously the single biggest issue in my mind...

I like the Scout and have a 2016 which at that time was less than the V7 models.  I live in a medium size town and the Indian dealer also carries Moto Guzzi and (did) Motus.  I ride my Guzzis more but enjoy the Scout a lot.  To get a little less of a cruiser set up, I put on reduced reach beach bars, reduced reach controls and a nice higher 1920s solo seat and floor boards.  Everything but the floorboards came free with the bike because it was end of the year clearance.  Very happy to have an American made bike in the garage with the Guzzis.  The motor is remarkably smooth.  The radiator is so low it really does not detract from the looks of the bike in my opinion.

Kev-I haven't seen the Kuryakin, but the Roland Sands and a kit out of Japan have been out a long time. I think either one will be uncomfortable for an inseam above 30".

Kidsmoke-my wife had a Jackal, I had an EV and a V700 in addition to my LeMans which was my main touring bike. The standard Scout pegs were pretty good but a little stretched out and the cornering was a bit too noisy. So we each installed the "reduced reach" kit which raised the pegs and moved them back a bit. She now has boards installed which allows her to put her feet about where the Jackal was.

Frankly after riding the Scout both the EV and Jackal felt very cramped. On my bike my knees and hips are at about 90 degrees, the bars pull me into a decent posture and I ride it all day without issue.

My friend with a V9 Roamer with the set-back controls says my bike felt a lot like his.

Forgot to mention-I also have 2 sets of footboards. I continue with the pegs for several reasons but here's my point.
The Scout with reduced-reach foot controls plus the Indian factory footboards feels pretty much like a Jackal as far as foot position, with much of what that implies-even greater cornering clearance and the feeling of being cramped.

These are pricey to buy new but if any Guzzi rider converts to a Scout and wants the Indian boards I'll take $50 plus shipping. I won't use them. One thing abvout these bikes-it takes less than 5 minutes to switch from pegs to boards and vice versa. Heck, I think I could change a drive belt in less time than changing from pegs to boards on a California.

How do you think a Scout would work for small passengers (kids)?

I wonder if there's a passenger pillion set-up that can be used with the raised solo style seat (kinda like what I have on my Police RK)?

For a small passenger it would be fine-some use them for 2 up but I doubt they ride really big miles. The pegs mount to the swingarm-a retro touch.

The OEM pillion is pretty decent for what it is and again a small passenger would be happy-the backrest would be a must in my opinion. Again, mounting and de-mounting takes only a few minutes. The "driver" backrest is not really a good idea, it interferes with swinging a leg over.

I think there's a few options on seats from aftermarket sources, no input on those.

2018 bikes have a slightly modified rear exhaust that moves the pipe inboard a bit, which may help those with shorter legs avoid a hotleg.

If like me you like to dirt road it a bit you may want to consider a front "mud" flap. I dinged a few radiator fins on a loose-chip road this summer on the Ute reservation in Colorado

This year's trip the fuel mileage was remarkable, much improved from the first year. We may be doing a cross-Canada ride next year, really looking forward to it.

Just my opinion, but the best thing about the scout is the engine and gearbox. If they put that motor in a standard ergo streetfighter/tourer/adventure I would buy one. Provided it had the necessary goodies, like tank range and ability to strap some luggage on it.

Yep, that's a sweet motor, I'm just not crazy about what they bolt it to. They could use a little Eric Buell

I've done a couple of road tests on the Scout, one just before I bought my V7, and one a year later. I didn't like riding in the birthing position, but apart from that enjoyed it, except that over 50mph on a busy motorway on a windy day it didn't feel too stable, certainly not as stable as my Guzzi. I felt that it was better suited for quieter, slower roads. Oh, and for posing around town.

It's a good looking bike, a few things I would like different (for me) but I would own one.
