V7 III Red Head Covers
« on: September 05, 2018, 02:56:17 PM »
These arrived in the mail today.  I acquired them for an insanely low price and I'll soon know whether they're brilliant or a gaudy aesthetic train wreck when sitting beneath my bike's Giallo Energico (yellow) tank.

I think the combination scores a point for novelty.  I'm not persuaded that it's a brilliant combination but I don't think it's a gaudy aesthetic train wreck.

I'm probably in the minority in the first place as I like the red covers.

I also love that yellow.

I'm not sure I'm sold on the combo, but I don't have to be!

I think they'd look brilliant on anything black or white, especially in combination with other red touches like frame or wheels.

I also think they might look fine with the yellow if there was MORE of the yellow and it was more cohesive.

Follow me here. I think that there might be too much going on - yellow here, black fenders there, red head covers, and silver sidecover.

That might be a bridge too far - but if you like the red head cover, maybe just blacking out the side-covers would be enough to make it more cohesive. I think yellow fenders and side cover might be perfect though.

I dunno....

Thanks for the comments and the photoshop.  I'm in agreement with all of your comments - there's too much going on and it's not really harmonious.  If it's not too much trouble I'd love to see one where the injector covers are blacked out as well.  A while back I got the side covers and injector covers at oddly reasonable prices and I prefer both to the stock plastic items.  I don't like any of the matte finished tanks but went with the yellow because, odd as it is, it offended me less than the black or green and there were no blue ones in my neck of the woods.  I've claimed to myself that is my last motorcycle (probably fifteen or so have come before) so I've decided to try things (both cosmetic and mechanical) that break most of my old motorcycle ownership rules.  Come the winter if I have any money I'll have the tank repainted and possibly the side panels and fenders.  I'm currently inclined to the pale Sunfire Yellow found on the '67 Corvette.

From a visual design, the black side cover looks better and doesn't compete with the red head as does the silver side cover.

Sorry, I know it's crude, but I can't seem to find the right tools to adjust it for a true black. But hopefully this helps.

A while back I got the side covers and injector covers at oddly reasonable prices and I prefer both to the stock plastic items.

I don't blame you and I get it. The side cover is a nice looking piece. And I did a similar thing with my V7, replacing the cheap ugly plasti-chrome injector covers with small metal aftermarket covers that were black. So I get it.

I think that blacking them out with some paint might be enough to really change it in this case.

Might I ask where you purchased the red covers?  I think they'd look nice on my Anniversario.

I like the red valve covers! They would look good on my Special to which I have put red eagles and red MG logos. And you know the matte colors can be polished pretty easily. I did that on my Kawasaki Z650 with some Mequiar's polishing compound.

Oh, Oh, here comes the bling factor. I think the silver works but how bout a yellow and red stripe coming together on the sidecover.

Hey kev,
While you're at it maybe you can photo shop a V7 with the older style head covers like on the jackal.

That's a lot more work, but if you can get me a dead-nuts straight from the side shot of a V7 you want me to try it on I'll look for something that might match and try to size appropriately. I assume you would want the stock unfinished Jackal cover style?

Thanks for the additional photoshop Kev M.  Keen observations fotoguzzi -I was sure that the color combination mimicked some tropical fish or other but a google search showed nothing closely corresponding.  Sent you a message guzzi gal.

A set of yellow Ohlins with red springs would balance out the look.

Went for a ride today and think they look good from the driver's seat.  Others may have different opinions.

You must have gone to the same school of design as the Moto Guzzi Stylists.
