I sold them on ebay for sub $200. The wheels arrived damaged. The rear hub was broken and the front wheel was bent. The wheels were in UPS's possession for less than 30 hours. The really great news is the buyer refused to open a claim against UPS for the damage and filed a claim with PayPal. It took the buyer 32 days to get me pictures of the wheels and still didn't provide pic of the packaging. I honestly don't know if they were damaged in transit or if he damaged them trying to install them. Either way PayPal sided with him and I now am getting the wheels back and have to fully refund the buyer the purchase and shipping costs. I also get to incur the $23+ in ebay fee's.

What I've learned is with PayPal a buyer can file a claim 90 days after an item arrives. So if someone want to they can use something for 89 days then file a claim and most likely the seller will have to reimburse them even though its out of their control. So from now on if I use PayPal again I will only accept transaction that are friend and family.

That stinks!

I have had some packaged arrive that were beat to death on the outside, even to the point that had been taped back up just enough to hold them together. The very first thing I did was take pics of the boxes before I moved or opened them for the reasons you mentioned above. In those cases, I was fortunate since the contents were [thankfully] alright.

I don't think the trouble is PayPal as much as it is the buyer. IIRC, packages are insured with UPS up to a certain amount as long as there is a stated value, and can be insured for more for a few bucks extra.

So if everything you related is accurate, (and I have no reason to doubt that it is), the buyer should have taken a few pics and reported this to UPS without delay. It's just that simple.

My 2 cents.

I had an yclept 'buyer' for my Lario. Stated on the advert I would not take pp. He took a fit over the tele. So much so that I had to hang up on him. I have felt your pain. Thanx for sharing. Good to know there are like minds out there.

Many years ago I sold an unused, complete chrome plated exhaust for an LM 1000. It was damaged in shipment by ups (at the time they were self insured). What a battle; but they finally came through.  R3~

I wonder if he had damaged wheels on his bike, replaced them with your good ones and is sending his own damaged wheels back for a refund. It would be a low act but the world is full of scumbags.

I really have a hard time thinking UPS did that kind of damage to a couple of wheels, for heavinsake. Sure, a box will get crunched sometimes, but that would have taken a hydraulic press.

I smell a rat. This sounds like a scam. It would be a shame if the buyers name and address were accidentally revealed to a wide audience........

Nothing to be solved by posting his information.

The interesting part is the wheels are to be shipped back to me in the same condition that they arrived to the seller before the money is refunded. Since it took 32 days for him to produce photo I have no idea what they or the packaging looked like the day they arrived.

You can still file a claim with UPS as the shipper. With the published information you have and the package with tracking info, UPS will investigate. I believe you have a year, and surely the delivery driver would remember a damaged carton.

No one is saying he (the buyer of the wheels) is was or will ever be a WG member. Member or not I'd not post names and/or address's on an open forum.

The English courts provide anonymity to a woman who accuses a man of rape, but not to the man. The argument is that by publishing his name other victims may come forward. If this fellow is a serial fraudster his name might be familiar to some here, and lead to his victims getting legal redress.

I've had miserable experiences with UPS and the USPS.

Neither take any responsibility.

There is no excuse for the buyer not to take pictures and contact you immediately . Before I open any package I have my camera at the ready.

I guess we're just lucky. We've never had a problem with either.

If you would have just sold them to me they would now be hanging on my wall and you would have money in your pocket.  Dealing with forum members, and in person, instead of ebay is the way to go.

I ended up flying since I had no reason to drive and got plane tickets for $213 round trip.

If you're not able to act for justice, why have people bring their problems with other members to you?  Your inability to protect members from the bad elements here just emboldens the deplorables.  This policy or "spirit of the rules" that refuses to acknowledge the existence of evil is the predators' license to hunt, and the rest of the WG membership is the game in season.  The bad guys know that if they are exposed it will be their victims that suffer for it, not them.
