« on: November 28, 2018, 12:07:02 PM »
Having coached young people in 2 sports (rifle & wrestling) and as a for Asst. Athletic Director for a large high school program.  I shake my head and ask WTF???

OK.  Have a certain amount of decorum at any social gathering is important no matter who you are, but who in their right minds sells alcohol as a fundraiser for a school program?

My career has been in the F&B/Event world. Lemme tell ya... "decorum" goes out the window for some folks (be they lawyers, teachers, doctors, hockey players, or anyone else) as soon they hit the golf course (or banquet, Xmas party, whatever, no matter the cause). I have seen things.... during private functions, fundraisers, etc, that make you wonder what decade we're in.

So yeah, add me to the "WTF is wrong with you" category in this case, but also to the "I am in NO WAY surprised" category, too.
Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

There must be a lack of training on the athletic depart. side.  The Assistant Athletic Director was present at the event and "no" supervision over the event.  WTF???

We've all seen it.   Some people, when they drink, lower their IQ and social skills down below that of a chimpanzee.   THEY think they're funny and witty, but ....

We had an electronic technician at work who came to us from 15 years in the Navy.   He was scarred up something terrible, had steel dentures, but seemed to be a good guy, friendly, and a consistent worker.   But when we had a workplace social occasion, he'd have a few drinks and immediately turn into a mean fighting drunk, trying to pick fights with his own co-workers, pushing around strangers twice his size, and would either break up the party, end up bleeding on the ground, or someone would have to call security.

When our local county school boards would have dinner together (cash bar; county doesn't pay for alcohol), one of the adjoining county board members would be there.   Lovely gal in her forties or so, very well thought of in the community, normally very decorous and proper.   But after a few drinks, she'd start rubbing up against all the guys, hanging around their necks, and whispering opprobrious suggestions, and generally acting like she was the paid entertainment for the night.

So there shouldn't be any surprises any time people are getting fed liquor at ANY function.   There's one or two in every crowd ....

+1 Have to agree.  Generally speaking there should be no alcohol at any public school related function.

School officials say Curry vomited on himself in the golf cart, and the assistant athletic director took Curry home in the back of his pickup truck.

Just a bit drunk..ya think....but wait...so he's fired as a coach but he is still faculty? So he can teach...hmm I believe there is some flawed logic in this decision...
if you are going to fire him....then fire him....I don't get it.

but I do believe everyone makes mistakes...there's always more to the story...it sounds like an adult event and not on school property?.. with students around?  He apologized...showed real remorse?  Break any laws?

a second chance? for what he still has his job....I don't get it

"Curry drank five beers, eight shots and a half bottle of liquor at a golf fundraiser."  If I drank that much, I'd be puking too.

Definitely a poor choice by the coach/teacher.

If I had to drive around in a golf buggy I reckon I'd want to get so pissed I could throw up on myself and it as well!

Really, it does seem just a trifle out of order........

Ahh, yes. AND, it's the season to be jolly. There will be a lot more of the same behavior.
Be careful out there!  Sincerely: HAPPY HOLIDAYS and good fortune to all.  R3~
