Enrico Fermi & Guzzi
« on: January 01, 2019, 12:31:53 AM »
Enrico Fermi was from Rome and left Italy because of the intolerance of the late '30s, but he and his wife returned after the war.  He liked hiking near Lake Como so spent some time there attending a collaborative physics retreat at Varenna and hiking.  It was just up the road so Guzzi threw a party.  Can't yet find a picture of Fermi (or any other Italian physicist) riding a Guzzi...
First 3 pictures from learning about particles by Jack Steinberger: https://books.google.com/books?id=X07golps4SIC&lpg=PA78&ots=nBnhbNJhn8&dq=enrico%20fermi%20%22guzzi%22&pg=PP1#v=onepage&q&f=false

In the last picture Fermi and his wife are just left of center.  Is the rider Duilio Agostini?  Does anyone recognize others - maybe Carlo took the foto?

Thanks SED.  That was a very interesting post.

I wonder if Fermi and his pals were investigating the quantum randomness of Guzzi malfunctions.

Accentuate the positive;
Eliminate the negative;
Latch on to the affirmative;
Don't mess with Mister In-Between.
