V7iii Stone tyres

My V7iii Stone will soon need new tyres - is there any consensus on the best choice? Continental Radials? Bridgestone 45s? The knobbies on the Rough?

With an 18" front tyre, your choices might be limited.  Mine were when I went to reshod my V7-III Stone.

All I could find were the Bridgestone B45s front & rear.  There was nothing wrong with the Pirelli Sport Demons originally fitted, except they wore rather fast.  I replaced them at around 7,500 kM.

I like my Avon AM26 roadriders on my V7II.

Plenty of choices out there.

Nice thing about tires is they will wear out and if you haven't liked them you can choose another brand.

I, too, prefer the Avon AM26. Michelin Pilot Activ are also good. I haven't yet tried the Conti radials.

On my V7 I Stone (with lowered fork - so the geometry should resemble the III) I ride the Dunlop Street Smart. In my opinion it is much better than the Sport Demon, especially when it is cold (below freezing point) and wet. Nevertheless my next tyres will be without any question the Conti Road Attack III, because radials are superior and this tyre is optimised to work well in cold and wet conditions.

While not having any direct experience with current 18 inch tyres I'll give a shout out for Continental who after a considerable time in the wilderness have some bloody wonderful tyres at the moment in current 'Normal' sizes and I can't see why their thinking and tech wouldn't spill over into rarer and more obsolete sizes.

Give 'em a go. You might be surprised.

I guess it is a 17" on the rear at least.

I fitted a Metzeler MeZ 2 on the rear, simply because it was the only tire available in an isolated area.  OEM on Thruxtons and Bonnevilles.  Have liked it. It's a steel belted radial and makes the rear feel nicely planted.  Up until then I have used the Sport Demons (OEM when I bought it) and they have been pretty good.  However, as KiwiDave has said, they wear pretty quick on the rear.  The front I usually get about 12,000 miles.
