Swivel wheel trailer
« on: March 02, 2019, 11:04:23 AM »
Wife wants a swivel wheel trailer to haul either her V65 or Jackle behind a one ton Chevy van motor home.  I've not had much exposure to them so I am wondering if anyone here has any advice.  Tips and sources are helpful at this point,  it's my job to locate and procure one. They seem like a good idea, what do you say?  Swivelwheel.com

I have nothing to offer about the trailer or company, but I did watch the 31 second video on their website.  Afterwards, among the thumbnails of the "recommended for you" videos was this- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xbX2pmV5pmw
Video of McYntire on the dustbin Gilera GP 500 in 57 & Dunlop riding a replica of same at same in tribute.   Wow!

Brief mention of the Guzzi V8 was made near beginning of video but nothing was said about whether the replica 500 being transported on a Swivelwheel Trailer.....   Good luck in your effort.

Idaho trailer or something like that is a company that makes trailers specific to tow behind campers, 5th wheels, and motorhomes.

I found this comment on iRV2.com:

"I put 30k miles on my 46 last year. Replaced the tire at about 15k miles, wheel bearings were fine the whole time, never had an issue. In fact, the swivel wheel bearings were always about 20 degrees cooler than the fifth wheel bearings. I have the dual receiver hitch for the trailer, which I believe adds more stability."

The SW-46 (4'x6') model with a 600lb capacity would appear to suit your purpose. The spare wheel, loading ramp, and wheel chock are additional options, and a dual-point hitch bar would certainly add more stability. Also, the SW-46 doesn't have the flip-up deck feature.

I don't think I've ever seen one of those on the road.. looks pretty cool, especially the loading ramp.

I probly saw one but wasn't looking and didn't notice.  Yeah they seem like a good idea.  There are a couple around the Twin cities for sale,  one smaller and one a dual wheel .

2 point attachment on the towing vehicle and castering platform  makes the device part of the towing vehicle as far as the law is concerned. Therefore if it is behind your camping trailer it is NOT considered a tandem trailer tow. A number of states do not allow tandem-tows for non-commercial vehicles. The castered attachment gets you around the tandem tow laws (and backs up easier).

Though this "trailer" doesn't add any weight to the "towing" vehicle, it still adds overhang and increases tail swing, which most RVs all ready have too much of.

My concern is the blasting things take when trailered for long distances. My friends MG is very mint and beautiful but it was behind an RV for a few summers before he got it and it really shows. I think a bike would take a beating as well.
A covered trailer would be so much better and more space for "stuff".

Yep, that is a true statement .  Our particular RV is a 1979  22 foot on a one ton Chevy Van.  It was a pig to drive,  even empty.  So on go overload springs on the rear,  air bags front and rear,  New anti sway bars front and rear and new tires.  Empty it handles well.  To the point of the overhang, these things are not built to handle any load on the rear hitch, the rear frame is just meant to hold up the box or coach part. Very weak, and I learned that by breaking the frame where they bolted it to the rear of the truck frame.  I repaired the frame and beefed the hell out of it,  otherwise it would have gone to the breakers. So your point is well taken.
