Made the tough choice to CalVin vs Roamer
« on: June 13, 2019, 08:00:57 PM »
Okay this was a hard decision I love the California vintage. Truly one of the prettiest Moto Guzzi's ever in my opinion. I love my 1400 California touring most though. I really didn't need two cruisers.

I wanted an intermediate smaller bike (900) for the twisties and around town, also I have also been drooling on the yellow Roamers since they came out. Sooooo, will be doing the swap next Wednesday.💖

I can see why that was a difficult choice - both are very sweet bikes albeit in different ways. I think you'll love the Roamer

It would be very hard for me to part with the Calvin. That must have been a very hard decision.

It was a hard choice, but I am truly in love with my 1400 touring, and it is all the cruisier I need.  The CalVin is beautiful and I loved it, but defaulted to the 1400 for any serious trips.  So a smaller lighter bike for around town and back road riding, was a strong want.  But, damn I love em all!

Just rode a V9 today and thought it was a fantastic alternative to the Cali 1100 variants.

Last year I got the chance to steal/borrow a demo Roamer for an evening and ride it to a bike night to do some show and tell for my local dealer.

Took the loooooong way home and didn't want to give it back. So the want has been strong ever since.

Excited to pick it up next week.

I'm not sure that I'll ever part with my Vintage. Glad that you're happy with your choice, though.

Congrats on the swap, Curt. I completely understand the direction here.

I'll say this, you cannot go wrong buying one of Curt's bikes. They are spotless, and meticulously maintained by an expert Guzzi wrench(Enzo at Cadre). Anyone with an itch for a Vintage, THIS is the one to get. Period.

Looking forward to the ride report on the V9...

Just rode a V9 today and thought it was a fantastic alternative to the Cali 1100 variants.

I consider this a pretty significant review....I've straddled them and love the ergo's, and with the deals out there right now....

Nice but hard choice. So many bikes so little space, time and money to enjoy them all. I’m thinking you might find the new member on longer trips just to enjoy the feel of The lighter quicker ride. Nice bike.

I think I will be hard pressed to find one I love as much, as my 2014 California Touring for the long trips. I am a big guy and this bike fits me like a glove. I truly loved the Calvin and it is truly is a beautiful piece of Italian art (aren't all Guzzi's )  But for travel the 1400 does it for me, I can't wait to put some miles on the roamer, and see what kind of adventures we can have on it! Will be a nice pair with Deb's V7 Special :-) (Her Tiger is her Touring bike choice)

There are some decent "luggage" options for the V9.

Here's just one.  In my mind, the rear rack is a necessity.
Saddlebags ?  Maybe

This is all Givi accessories

In my eyes , that is one beautiful bike !

I've seen some of the luggage racks that are little stubby things , but this longer one looks useful .   Anybody know where it comes from ?

Obviously, the V9 is a late bloomer. I remember when this bike was new - weird gas tank, too small tank, ugly, ... And now it is regarded another real alternative. Good!

kballowe's bike features the Givi side carriers and Givi rear rack.  We used Givi side carriers paired with the Moto Guzzi rear rack to allow room for the longer two-up seat.  I'll see about some pictures.
