NGC: R.I.P. Old Snake
« on: June 29, 2019, 09:23:02 PM »
My wife has had a little Plains Milk Snake for the past 31 years.  Sylvie just showed up on her porch one day and got adopted.   Amazingly sweet and docile.  Was surely a pet which escaped from a neighbor.  And yes, I know that everyone says this type of snake only lives about 7-15 years, but not Sylvie.

Well, such a day comes for all of us on this mortal coil.  Sylvie died this evening after about a week of odd behavior, continuously peeling skin, and a refusal to eat.

Count your blessings, pet your dog, and appreciate even the smallest amongst us who somehow worm their way into your heart.

Sorry to here but sounded like a grand old life for a snake. If I had tried that my wife would have moved out 31 years ago.

Give your wife a big hug.  I'm sure the loss of her pet for the past several years is really hard on her.

It really doesn’t matter on what level we humans place one of God’s creatures on, when one has feelings for that creature, the pain of loss is as great for a snake as a dog, cat, horse on any other mammal. Y’all bury your little friend together and have 31 years of memories. 🙏

Sorry to learn of Sylvie's passing.  I have witnessed the joy a snake can bring to one's heart.  Several years ago, a patron showed up at my place of employment with some paper to recycle, dumping her tote into the bin.  One of my employees, a young lady, immediately found the snake in the bin and gently picked it up, announcing, "A snake!"  As it turns out, the patron's Mexican Corn Snake had gone missing a few months earlier, and was reunited with it that day.  She was overjoyed and brought to tears.  RIP, Sylvie.
