I was lucky enough to meet Chris Whitley and see him play quite a few times.  He was incredibly talented.  If you’re gonna link to him at least pick one where his guitar is in tune!😁

Saw them last year or the year before. Absolutely flawless and amazing!

Wednesday night I saw Arthur Brown with Carl Palmer and his ELP Experience.
I NEVER thought I'd see Arthur Brown perform and didn't know he would be there. In the space of a single evening, I saw him perform, met him, got a photo and he autographed his new CD for me.
Great guy! And he's 77!

Some of my choices have already been mentioned, but no one has yet said, "Good Rats."
If you've never heard them, I advise, most of their live recordings, and even their first studio album are very rough poor recordings. Instead, start with the "RatCity In Blue" studio album. If you need something tamer, try their "Tasty" studio album. I've been enjoying these 2 albums for 4 decades.

Some of the most competent musicians you will ever see can be found hanging around bluegrass festivals. The timing they can hold with amazing speed is really humbling. And there are no drums to cover your mistakes. I've seen dedicated classical musicians that are astounding in their ability, and I'm not much of a fan. I do appreciate talent.

Waits.  Tom Waits.  The man has defined offbeat for well over 40 years.  I don't believe he's ever been onbeat.

Otherwise, Charles Mingus.  Those jazz cats just did not care about "normal" music.
He lost the run of himself.

I've got to agree.  Seen Belew many times with KC and just found out he will be at a small venue here in LA in September.  Think I will go!

I saw them too, think it was the year before.  Took my wife (reluctantly) and she was blown away.  She wants me to get tickets for the September show here.

I agree with Ellis Paul, Leo Kottke & James McMurtry.

I'd have to add Taylor Sorensen to that list.

I have always liked the regional bands here in the Southern Wis./Northern Ill. area that never could quite breakout. Some great Albums, always
awesome live shows, but usually in small venues. Maybe some of you from the area have seen them.

"The Snaggs" here's a couple, one of their own and The Beatles, "I am the Walrus" . They had a couple EPs & and Album.
Lead singers dad is a little more famous.

I first heard of him from his time playing with the Talking Heads...  but that whole band with Buford, and Chapman was top shelf...

Excellent thread.... and some good music shared here... my tastes tend to run a bit more into hard rock/metal but my tastes are far and wide:

So in no particular order:

Five Finger Death Punch (OK, they're basically mainstream now, but I started loving them when they one step above a garage band. They have lost some members over the years, but they haven't lost their sound)

Cruxshadows (new-age dark-wave rock... good sound, an awesome vocalist, and amazing lyrics)

Apocalyptica (4 guys on cellos playing hard rock... it is something else)

Heather Alexander (Love the March of Cambreadth)

Within Temptation (The folks who wrote and sing Faster, the official song of the Isle of Man TT)

Eluvite (Celtic Metal, and they incorporate some old, odd, Celtic instruments which I find cool as heck)

Bloodywood  (Indian Hard Rock, or Punjabi-metal. Not everyone's cup of tea... but I enjoy it)

And just to balance the harder stuff, I also listen to:

Steve Lee (The I Love Guns songs are awesome, the videos are better, well, if you like guns...)

Lindsey Stirling (What that young lady does with a violin will blow your mind)

2 Cellos (Lots of covers of classic rock songs done on... 2 cellos)

So, that's a quick sample of some of the odd stuff in my playlist...
