One question , the blurb claims 100 NM of torque , which is like 74 lbs ft . Is that a misprint , sure seems that much torque would result in a higher top speed than 28 MPH , and likely rip the rear wheel off that thing

Electric bikes seem like a natural fit for the tech, but 4K will severely limit its popularity.

Erik Buell gives italian motorcycle manufactures a run for their money for how many times he has  gone out of business. Maybe this time it will stick and he will hang in there

One of our local “puppy-mill” mega cycle centers has a 2014 Buell 1190RX listed for $9k. Lots of crash damage on its left side. So tempted due to the low mileage (under 4K).  But, can you get parts for it? I’ve seen posts on Facebook claiming there’s a company in Wisconsin still assembling the bikes and they claim to have spare parts. But since they seem difficult to make contact with, it’s quite a gamble.

No comment on the accuracy but you can apply 74 lbs-ft all day on something and it may not move.

I'm thinking the U.S. limits the "assist" to 20/25 mph to keep categorized as a bicycle. (not sure).  These bikes are deemed "pedal assist".

Here's a long distance cross/gravel/road bike from Specialized.  The Creo.  As with most e-bikes (mountain and road), the assist can be dialed in with an app (of course!)   The app will regulate the assist to ensure enough power to get you to your destination.
The main battery system is in the downtube of course..  The range extending battery is in the drink bottle cage area for quick change outs.

This top-end model will set you back around $14k.  You can get the base model for $8k.

For those who appreciate exclusivity and the lowest possible weight, Specialized has a special treat: Strictly limited to just 250 bikes, the Turbo Creo SL Founder’s Edition can be pre-ordered for a price of € 14,499 ($16k?).

There's an advert playing during "Tour de France" coverage that shows Phil Liggett easily pedaling past one of the top Tour riders whilst commentating on the race...  LOL.

Or is he getting ahead of some of the curve?
It's crazy how far the electric vehicles have come....cars, bikes, racers.    Love'em or hate'em, they're here.

the very first thing it needs is a 203mm front brake disc.... no way that single 180mm in front is going to do shit on a 70lb bike rolling 28mph with a rider wearing a backpack or with panniers....

My single speed mtb had a 180mm XTR front brake on it and weighs under 24#.....  the fade while descending 18-25mph with a 230# rider was insane....  brake was worthless by the bottom of a 2.5mi trail

Speaking of:
Buddy of mine descended a rather long hill only to fall by the creek at the bottom.  In doing so, he accidentally rubbed up against the rear disc thus giving his leg a Shimano disc design branding.  Ouchie.

It's sad how H-D dropping Buell gave Erik a reputation for failure. Even worse is how that reputation then followed him to EBR.

Buell's were great bikes with loads of personality and I thoroughly enjoyed every one I rode.

I'll bet H-D regrets cutting Buell now that they are struggling to reach out to new customers and are currently having to design their own ADV, Sport and Electric bikes in order to do so. The greatest irony is that dropping Buell may end up killing H-D.

Before and during Erik’s run with HD he designed bicycle suspensions for Trek and Schwinn’s top end mountain and road bikes.

I also enjoyed the two Buell motorcycles I owned.

US allows 750 watts for a bicycle. Some states may vary but ours goes with the fed rule. So my wife has a 750 watt bike, of course.
It's actually reasonable. It allows her to ride with me (recovered racer) and we have a lot of fun.

For the record, I still have a S3 Thunderbolt.  Great torque.  Pretty good fuel mileage.  Handles really well.  :thumb:  So the thread is not a negative one.

How many times does he have to fail before his apologists stop blaming Harley?  I rode every generation of Buell except the last.  That would be the one the liquid “cooled” one that tended to melt dipsticks they ran so hot.  I think the XB series are the best motorcycles to ever have Buell on the tank.  I also think part of the reason they’re the best is because Harley was able to dial back Erik’s hubris enough to make it happen.  Hubris and a total disinterest in making money means he should never run another company again unless it’s strictly a design consulting firm.  I’ve lost track but I think he has failed at least five times.

The XB’s are really, really fun bikes.  You can thank Harley for that as much as Buell.

I don't see where he failed. H-D certainly didn't do him any favors when they put weak cranks in his bikes. They owned 51% of Buell but never felt the need to make sure the bikes were good-to-go before putting them on the show room floor.

I don't think the Buell crowd enjoyed the parade of recalls as much as the H-D crowd. Some guys LOVE standing around a H-D dealership while their bike gets sorted out.

His biggest mistake was putting his name on the tank. Once he'd been saddled with an unfairly earned reputation for failure it was all over.

He failed with Barton and sold 51% of Buell to Harley because he would have gone out of business otherwise.  Harley shut down Buell because of the pressure of the global financial downturn and his insistence on working the RS even though everyone knew the bike had issues.  He then failed with EBR...twice more.  That’s four times, only one of which you can blame on Harley and that’s only if you decide to completely overlook his responsibility.

He has an extremely well earned reputation for failure both for his business acumen and some design flaws he chose to repeatedly ignore due to his ego.

I happen to love riding tube frame Buell’s, and I came very close to buying an XB TT.  That was the purest, most raw hooligan bike I’ve ever ridden that wasn’t a supermoto.  However, all of his bikes had issues.  All of them.  He has some great ideas but once he decides something he refuses to alter it because it’s tied to his ego.  He’s an innovator and incredibly creative but he belongs at a large manufacturer, working on a strong team who aren’t members of his cult, with strong oversight by an open minded management.  I admire him for many things but unless you’re a Buell fanatic or are unaware of his history, it’s impossible not to lay blame at his feet.

I’ve seen posts on Facebook claiming there’s a company in Wisconsin still assembling the bikes and they claim to have spare parts.

I suspect you are talking EBR, not Buell.

EBR rights and parts were acquired by Liquid Asset Partners in Grand Rapids, MI. They have the rights and parts to build new EBR bikes and have enough to make 200 more. I've seen the shelves, I've seen the new bikes, I've seen them boxing up parts for EBR owners. You can always check them out for yourself: http://www.liquidap.com/ebrparts/
