Oil Pressure Sensor Delete?
« on: July 21, 2019, 11:57:29 AM »
08 Norge. The second sensor has gone bad now. I don’t think I will ever believe/trust there is really a problem when the light comes on now. So, is there a way to clip the wires and trick the computer to thinking all is ok so the dash won’t show the red triangle and cover everything else up on the dash?

I expect yours is like the contemporary Griso and Breva. If so, the answer is no.

There are two error codes for oil sensor faults,  dsb 07 and dsb 08. One (07) occurs if the switch is open when the engine is stopped, and the other (08) occurs if the switch is closed when the RPM is above 2000 rpm. So there's no simple cutting or splicing of wires that can trick the system.

I have often seen them fail if they get wet.

Maybe you can get something like this on it.

Wayne,

That's an interesting suggestion. I don't think that particular boot would fit with the original nail-head connector. But the later oil pressure switch has a spade connector that should might be compatible:

The change to the nail-head connector, and the accompanying deletion of the rubber boot, may have led to the large number of sensor "failures" seen on the CARC models. Or so it suddenly seems to me.

EDIT: I just looked. There is some sort of smaller cap on the OEM connector. Maybe my idea was wrong.

How long between failures ?
My ‘07 wanted one each 60,000 or so.
I cannot see why an elbow fitting cannot be screwed into the block and a line run to the switch, somewhere more accessible ?
Once the pressure builds in the system, it should read the same wherever it is mounted.. No ?

Reminds me of the transmission oil pressure senders on the German helicopters, MBB BO105's  that I used to maintain. the pressure switches for the master warning lights were ok but the senders for the gauge were crap and they were the same, only different, as used on a lot of German cars. Can you replace the switch with some other one? I use a pressure switch that fits a Dodge slant six that works well on a old Guzzi. If you can find a knowledgeable parts person maybe you can find one for a metric type so no adapter is needed. they can get the operating parameters out of the catalog so you can closely match the original pressure as far as when it closes. There is nothing worse than a oil pressure switch that cant be trusted.

The problem with these switches is the pressure sensing diaphragm is so small and stiff the travel is minute.
See if you can find a larger switch at an auto wrecker and adapt the connection.
It can switch anywhere between 10 & 20 psi.

Normal pressure is 60 psi but it can drop to 10 while idling hot.
I prefer to add a 0 - 100 gauge
But I suspect Moto is correct the Norge would throw up an error code if it doesn't see a switch.
