Only been 33yrs & it's rusted up. Never did anything but change wheel bearings 5 times & now they won't stay in. Even if I use the thick Loctite that takes up .008". So, I need to swap out the hub that's not reacting to heat, 5lb hammer or much else.
Got out the dremell and started cutting a groove, then a chisel. What a pain.

Don't forget to take it apart & grease the hub!!!

Good life expectancy... but each time wheel bearing is driven out it seems to me that it broaches the bore...?

If it were possible to take a baggie with some isopopyl alcohol + dry ice slush... and attempt to cool just the bearing - might this release a bit of the interference fit, reduce broaching, and maintain integrity of the bore... going forward, of course?  What about pock-marking the bore with a hardened metal punch to "knurl" the bore a bit? Then heat bore + supercool bagged bearing (set in slush bath) to reinsert with limited broaching...

It's the driving out that does it, even w/heat.  Going in is always heated & bearings in the freezer. Served me 130K mi.  My LM3 wheel is on the Cal2 right now, it was re-worked 10K mi ago w/new hub & spline plate. I just want the wheels to match now.
Can't imagine the cush drive moving w/it's rusted up.

Steve, do you put some heat on the hub before you remove the bearing?

Yes, It's all side car use also. Just not made for side load.

Just a reminder to service it or when you wear the splines out they will be rusted together and a pain to swap out.
