I think Huzo you are hankering after a V85 based Le Mans. That would be nice, but I'm after a V85 based Breva or a Mini Norge with a 1/2 fairing based on a V85. Like a FJ900 Tracer but based on the V85. Maybe.

I actually don’t want one mate.
For what I do now it’d useless, but I’d love to see Guzzi take off, especially since the signs are initially encouraging for them.
They’ve gutsed it out for a lot of years.

Love the way it's going. Waiting for the V85 road versions to see if it's worth getting a loan for a replacement of my 2004 Breva...

It's never going to happen for me but I would surely love one.

I like the look of the V85TT.  Would be good for our roads too.

Couple items...

The big Japanese four and Ducati are still making quite a few sport bikes. I don't see them going totally away unless they are killed by outside forces, like licensing restrictions or regulations or something similar.

When going to the MotoGP in Austin a couple years ago with my wife (her first time), she was amazed at how the free parking lot was mostly sport bikes, then when she saw Ducati Island parking (back when it was located on the North side), she was more giddy. She loves sport bikes and won't allow a cruiser in the garage. I thought she was going to kick me out when I brought a Harley home for a short time.   

New sport bike sales will always be a small selling subset somewhat because of the price point. Most everything about the bikes are cutting edge with top line suspension, brakes, frame, engine tune and electronics. New sport bikes today are amazing in their performance. Of course we won't see them in big numbers out on the highways and byways crossing the country because they aren't set up for that.

Different fads seem to come and go. Our local Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki/other stuff? shop told me just this Saturday that he has lots of sport bikes on the floor and is selling quite a few, but can't hardly keep a supply of the Yamaha FZ naked sports in stock and has only one Suzuki SV left, after ordering 10. And we are in the flatlands, with the Ozarks 2 to 3 hundred miles away. I do see a lot of former sport bike riders moving to the FJ09, Multistrada, Versys type bikes. These bikes have near sport bike performance in an upright, touring ergo set up.

I personally like sport touring, and for the long haul I use my FJR. But the R1200GS is a nice backup as it can carve corners very well. For running around town and an occasional trip to the Ozarks, I do really enjoy riding the Griso. Which I consider a naked sporty street fighterish (if it wasn't so heavy). Don't have a sport bike anymore, as it wasn't getting ridden enough to justify a spot in the garage, but everytime I would ride it the thrill was still there. I miss it every once in a while.

Isn't the choice we have great! Pick what you want to do, and there is a bike out there that will do it well.

point of reference is an Iron Head ? Well I suppose if you live in the midwest with long, flat, boring straightaways, lined with endless cornfields, you might notice vibration more.
But I live in the northeast. Roads are rough, you're either going up hill, or down, short straightaways, lots of turns, and oh yeah, pine trees.
Know what they look like? Rarely on a highway, never more than a handfull of cars. So vibration isn't really noticed.
You might not like the non cancelling turn signals, only 4 speeds. No digital gear indicators, tune up uses a feeler guage, not a laptop.
Power hits right off the bottom, you can start off in 2nd if you like.

 Sounds like Easter Oklahoma , except we have warmer weather . No corn within 100 miles of me , just hills and water . Oh , and curves , lots and lots of curves , everywhere you look is a curve , well , or some transplant from the Northeast escaping the snow

My point being that in the US they always represented a small fraction of total sales.

And considering worldwide sales have largely been small utilitarian bikes, I bet they weren't any more prevalent elsewhere.

Up here going back about 10 years that's really the only thing you saw that wasn't HD..  HD's and Sortbikes were the norm, with a few other stuff thrown in..  And if you went to a dealer, that was pretty much it..  Walk into Honda and it was a room full of CBR's, a few Shadows, and maybe one wing...  Again I think aera made a big difference...

Here where I live, in the 1990s and 2000s, if a rider was under 25, he was on a repli-racer.

Now, the young riders are on old cafe bikes they've cobbled together and newer standards and retro standards.  It's real unusual to see a young guy on a 600cc-750cc sportbike.

Because I live in the mountains, I'll see lots of ADVriders in pairs and small groups.  And, the usual smorgasbord of cruisers.

I used to see lots of older guys on Japanese and German Sport-Tourers, and Euro Sportsbikes (Ducatis/Triumps), but those sights are unusual, now.  I think the Sport-Touring d00ds from the '90s and '00s are either aged out, or switched to ADVbikes.
