Argh... I messed up the valve adjustments again

Perhaps it is the fact that my Griso and Norge both had .10 and .15 valve adjustments, and they were my first Moto guzzi's, for whatever reason when I did the adjustment on my Stornello last fall, and the MGX last week, instead of doing .15 and .20 as the manuals call for, I did them in .10 and .15.

I know it's not a big deal, and likely won't damage anything, but I need to retrain myself... I guess I just assumed that because the MGX has the same basic motor as the 8 valve Norge, that it would be .10 and .15 for valve adjustments. But as I was looking through the factory service manual tonight, I came across the table for valve adjustments and saw that they were .15 and .20. 

I've got some major servicing coming up for the GRiSO...   oil change, air filter change, valve adjust, transmission and rear differential, etc etc... all need to be changed to include a throttle body balance and Guzzi diag reset and relearning of parameters. Once I get those complete I'll readjust the MGX, and then the Stornello.

Hopefully in the future, I will remember.... Though anything is possible these days :-)

i wouldn't call any of that major service anymore.. try changing and setting (with a tuning fork) two timing belts, a Desmo valve service and a four hour job to get the tank out from the trellis frame just to change the top spark plug.

Is this 150 thousandths of an inch, or point one five millimeters, or    ?

My Guzzi gets set at five and seven thousandths of an inch - Yours cannot vary THAT much ...

Apart from the cooling system and an extra plug the 1400's are identical to the 1200's, even the cams are the same. 0.1 & 0.15 are just fine and dandy for any Nuovo 8V.

They're in mm Normzone, it's Italian after all!

Just to throw a Spanner in the Works, I've had all 8 of mine set at 0.1mm for over 7500 miles now.
2009 Stelvio with the Roller Kit fitted.
Nice and quiet, only the Clutch rattle spoils the peace.

The gaps on the 8V 'CARC' Engines open up when hot.
That's not hearsay/rumour/myth, it's been checked, tested, and proved.

Don't sweat it, and welcome to the human race.
Just pop the valve covers off, pull the plugs and do it again.
Maybe an hour later you are all done, everything is put away, and you are the king of your world.
