Interesting wildlife encounter earlier today
« on: August 10, 2019, 08:11:17 AM »
I needed to go to the station for gas for the lawn mower and weed eater.  I could have driven 5 minutes or less to Gas Town, but decided to take a pleasant drive through part of the Cuyahoga National Park, and stop for breakfast.

As I came over a small rise at a relaxed speed limit of 35mph, out of the brush on the right side of the road came, side by side, a small deer and a wild turkey, just like they were good friends, out for a morning stroll.

Long, long ago,, when I was a young man, I was out hunting deer.
Food for my family, and dogs. Nothing was wasted.
Getting dark, wild turkey had been making noise for some time, I figured they were warning the deer.
I had laid out a bunch of crab apples, hoping to lure in the deer.
Since it was better dark, I started to head back home. Thought I'd run down a turkey, grab one by the neck.
Too dark to safely take a shot.
Turkey takes off running, I ran smack into a fallen timber tree trunk. Thought I broke my leg!
Lesson learned, not much can run through the woods faster than a turkey. Think they could outrun a deer

Check out this video of a mama moose and calf both falling down in front of a police car and then getting backup escaping fate.

I thought it was!  No camera with me, but not sure they would have stuck around for a photo op!
