Calling all California II Owners
« on: September 03, 2019, 10:12:40 AM »
Can someone please measure their windscreen on their California II & tell me what the height is from the top of the headlight ring, to the top of the screen?
The shield I have measures like 18.25”, I need something a little taller but not sure if I have the standard size or what. I know it adjusts, but this one is adjusted as tall as it will go.
Thanks for any help.

Kevin

Kevin,

the stock screen on a Cal II is the ugliest, worst designed pos that I've ever seen. Start over with the after market.

Yes, kevin, what Furbo said. Aftermarket much better. I am currently running a fairing from an EV Tourer on mine, but have used Memphis Shades universal mount windshields with good results. Rifle makes great quality windshields with universal mounting options. There is a big National cycle "plexifairing "many people like, and looks like a good fit.
Anything other than that  ugly flat barn door made for the bike.

Mine came w/factory screen w/new but it got traded for chrome valve covers at Dale's Cycle. Hasn't ever had a screen on it, only on the sidecar.

I, too, will measure mine when I get home. I ran the flat piece of plywood until I smashed it myself on the garage door (long story), then went to a full Calafia Eliminator II fairing, which I had to adjust upward until the wind buffeting occurred above my helmet.

I actually don't recall that the stock fairing performed that poorly, and Vintagehoarder's doesn't look that much different in configuration, but maybe it has more of a left/right radius that the original didn't?

Wow! Lots of ‘I will get it for you’ but no follow thru. I finally got tired of the smell of desperation, so I dug one out of my junk pile, where it rightfully belongs...........1 9 inches +\- an eight.

Thanks for the reply. That’s more or less what mine measures. I’m thinking seriously of putting a Swanee on it. I’m not sure why it is adjusted all the way out but still isn’t tall enough to prevent buffeting. I can still see over it by quite a bit. Any other suggestions for aftermarket would be appreciated.

My thought is that it sits so far forward of the rider that it is not effective. I have had an SP fairing on mine for the last 15 years and like it quite well.
I am 5’9” so YMMV.

With any product some will like and some will detest. I've put over 200K on the stock Cal11 riding wearing a shorty helmet. Daniel Kalal, a mega miler, has about 400K on his stock shield.  The 84 Cal11 was a hot seller in Texas and we all ran with the stock shield.

Now the stock shield I had on the Breva 1100 would suck an anvil out of your shirt pocket.
