Really stupid fork seal question

It is the wiper that does all of the sealing on the 45 MM Marzocchi forks , right ?

One of the forks on my EV weeped for years.  I would clean it with a plastic hook.  But after a few years it began to leak pretty badly.

The seal and upper and lower bushings were changed.  Procured from Harpers.  I think it was about $75.

Perhaps that's not what you were asking?

Bushings are fine , but whoever put the fork seals in the Bassa managed to bugger the wipers up horribly . Looking at the two piece design indicates the upper *seal* is nothing more than a dust excluder , it sure appears the wiper does all of the sealing .

Right You are, Dustmeister. The outermost piece is there to keep the big stuff out and the seal keeps the oil in.

Yeah , well , don't want to risk the seals being smarter than the rider .

So, on those forks the wiper is also part of the seal? I have never seen that before. Usually you have the wiper above, and below held by a circlip of some sort resides the actual oil seal. I always add gaiters to all my bikes forks , as soon as I can, so my fork seals seem to last forever !

Nope, separate dust wiper above and seal below.
