Sato vs. Agostini Racing Rearsets
« on: December 14, 2019, 05:38:21 PM »
I am wondering what the opinions are on the Sato vs. Agostini Racing Rearsets? I would like to hear peoples opinions on fit / finoish, ease of install, problems, etc.
I have a 2018 Rough and do like standing on pegs during longer rides; does that become more difficult with one over the other?
Obviously ergos are based on physical height / inseam and personal preference but I would like to hear what those in the know have to say!

Satos' customer service was a dead end when I needed a spacer missing from the kit. (SV650S).  R3~

Can't vouch for the Agostinis but the Sato Racing ones on my V7 Cafe were exceptionally well made and great looking. Install was pretty easy. The instructions supplied weren't great but not hard to work out. They have a bit of adjustment but only a few millimetres. If I'm not mistaken, the Agostinis are cast and the Satos are billet.

I had the Ago's.  Outstanding kit.  Pegs adjust to 4 locations.  Go slow and pay attention (take a few pics) as you'll need to reuse a few items in the same as OEM location.  Brake res gets relocated.

I can't vouch for the Sato's but I've mounted the Agostinis. No instructions came with them, but the Guzzi rear set kit fitting instructions work equally well as the Ago's are virtually the same (and I kept those) - the only difference seems to be that the footpegs on the Ago's are NOT hinged. On the pre-ABS bikes, nothing needed moving.

Thanks for the feedback!
I went out today (55 F - Brrrr) and on the straights really focused on my foot / hip position.
If the ball of my foot is on the center of the peg it was slightly more comfortable; so I might be seriously looking at a set of rearsets. Do you have to change out any cables with either set?

I need to put another couple hundred miles in before changing it though.

I don't believe there are any cables involved, at least there weren't on the pre-ABS models. I found that the slight forward lean as a result of the rear set position obviated the need for the screen - I took the screen off first, and needed the rear sets to get the lean, so that the wind didn't use my neck as a fulcrum. Solved the problem nicely.

I didn't change the cables until after I added the low bars - they didn't really need changing, but the Racer cables are a rad shorter & route a little more elegantly. Of course with the low bars and clip ons where I have them, standing up on the pegs is not really viable - only for the occasional leg stretch.

The LSL rear sets are another option, check them out, cheaper than the Ago's at any rate. I think AF1 has them in the US. I know Bob's Sato's look good & he was happy with them.

For all the rear sets, you've got to pay special attention to the gear shaft that goes from the linkage from the inside, through the frame, to the outside linkage. Some of the rear sets required a change there - the Racer kit (no longer available) came with a new gear shaft, as the original was cast onto the gear lever.

The lowest of 4 positions for the Agos is slightly up and back from stock position on my 2015 V7

I believe you should always ride with the ball of your foot on the center of the peg. It gives you a much better feel for control. Nick Ienatsch (racer, journalist, riding instructor) convinced me of this 30 years ago on a radio show. If you think about it for a minute you'll see that doing this gives you an extra joint in your leg, so to speak, at your ankle. Horses walk this way, and they do pretty well. It's a very springy stance. After a while, it becomes second nature.

You may not need rear sets at all.

After doing a track day at COTA and dragging the stock foot pegs and kickstand I knew if I was going to do anymore track days it would be wise to get some rearsets

+1, even with rear sets, and even on the 1100 Sport.

I had the Agos on my 15 V7 and liked them a lot.  I switched back to the stockers due to knee pain in my left knee.
