Younger Generation WOrld Awareness
« on: January 31, 2020, 07:22:14 AM »
Google searches for “corona beer virus” have spiked. A lot of people seem to think the global health emergency has something to do with the Mexican beer brand.

Maybe it's the old geezers searching that??

I work with a bunch of college educated 20-somethings.

Their lack of awareness is alarming.  Their lack of interest in things they're not aware of is frightening.

Fellas , this ain't the time or place for a discussion about different generations , we have members born before the boomer generation , and members born when some of us were already old curmudgeons . Heck , I had humorously thought about Corona beer when virus became an issue , I mean come on , that swill will kill ya also , right ?

Wait!  I thought that drinking Corona beer CURES coronavirus infections.  I also was under the impression that the source of coronavirus was Corona, CA.  I must have read it somewhere on the web.

I know all about the Corona virus. I caught it while on vacation a couple years ago. Symptoms included slurring of speech, stumbling, and a state of general confusion and euphoria. Which the next morning became a splitting headache, mouth like the Sahara desert, and nausea. That darn virus dogged me for most of the week... I got better when I went back to work...

I didn't think Corona was potent enough to cause any of that. We are having a grocery store war here, new just opened. One of the older ones is running some big loss leader ads. Currently they have 12 packs of Corona for just over $9. I pass.

I caught the Negra Modelo virus many years ago when we flew a small plane to Puerto Escondido. It was 25 cents a bottle, and didn't want to drink the water.. Unfortunately, as much as we avoided water   we still got the "tourista." Yuck.

As to the original post.. the twin grand kids are graduating from high school this year, and they are *very* aware of what is going on.

Maybe they just can't spell, TBH the less widely avaliable that stuff is the better, slightly salty water, although made from sewage water has a ring to it.

Can't we talk about something important, like the Blackheaded Cockchafer beetle plague?

Key points:
Cockchafer beetles have all emerged at once, meaning they are appearing in plaque proportions
The recent wet weather in Tasmania has been a factor in their appearance
The only purpose of the male cockchafer beetle is to mate and die
Blackheaded cockchafers have made the most of favourable weather conditions and have appeared in houses around Tasmania, in some cases in plague proportions.

Amen.  If you're not old enough to remember the timeless wisdom of "Never trust anyone over 30!" from the 1960's.....

You might miss the irony of the yutes thinking "OK Boomer!" is a novel statement.

Ain't their fault.  As we used to say in the olden days "They're just kids.  They don't know nothing!"

Nothing new under the sun.

Furreners can talk about Blackheaded Cockchafer beetles all they want.

But if Merkins use the word black in any sentences now, our betters will wokescold us for being "RACIST!"

I've had the bottle flu a few times. Nothin a little couch time, water and greasy salty food doesn't remedy.

... and I pay about as much attention to that sort of scolding as I do the noises of the cockchafer beetle; there's just as much meaning and intelligence involved, and the beetle makes it for a better reason!

Corona beer virus is a meme. It's meant to be humorous. No one actually thinks that the two are related.

I add lime and salt to any beer I drink, I guess I just don’t really like beer that much.

Not too many remember, even in Alaska, that canine coronavirus (CCV) was a major epidemic up here in the mid to late 80's. While it seldom killed healthy adult dogs, CCV was almost always fatal to puppies and stressed/weakened adults. Took out a lot of sled dog litters and some sprint racing and Iditarod dogs. But then they developed a -, it's routinely administered to puppies now, and don't hear about CCV.much anymore. I suspect the same thing will happen with the current epidemic in humans, tho there will always be some who won't get vaccinated just because...
Read about it here:

Always wanted to visit Ireland to sample Guinness the way it was meant to be experienced . We landed at the Casement Aerodrome right outside of Dublin in 1975 , I was all excited thinking we had a couple of days to explore Dublin , and sample a Guinness . Not to be , there was a situation we had to respond to , and then we were ordered back to the base .

I've had several pints right at the source. It's truly worth the experience. I've had it on tap in the US and Australia, and it definitely gets better the closer you get to Dublin.
